and it was very chilly....
We then all spent the next few days heading up to Everest driving through the Tibetan Plateau, principally along the Friendship Highway, passing stunning scenary including the ice blue colours of Yam Tso Lake and the towns of Gyantse, Shigatse and a detour to Sakya, all with their respective monasteries. These were very bumpy drives in four wheel drives that were quite old and rickety and due to the conditions, just driving over mountains, we had lots of punctures and stops to pick up fellow stranded travellers, amoungst them some very annoying belgiums...grrrr (that is not Molly and Kristoph from our group)! Overall, the views were stunning and inspiring...
Our tour guide Gopal did very well to keep our drivers motivated (they kept on wanting to take us down closed army roads so they wouldn't have to leave the comfort of the most recent town) so was very chuffed that I was part of a tour and did not have to sort it out myself!
On one day to add a bit of excitment, I was in the girls car (Cat, D and Erin) a roadworker decided to push his cart directly into the front of our car and get himself

sorry moving car so a little wonky!
run over, luckily unhurt but our driver did have to leave us up a mountain whilst he took the numpty to hospital and fed him (it was also typical that we were the last in the convoy and were stranded for a few hours till someone rescued us)
I'm going to dedicate another page to Everest (Qomolangma Feng)at 8848m in my next web log!
