Current day, Chang'an is quite different than it was in 757. The city has been renamed to Xi’an. This city is now the capital of a province in China. Xi’an or Chang'an is one of the oldest cities in China today. Much like back in 757, Xi’an is a huge economic city. The city has been a part of the economic revival of China and has became an important cultural, educational, and industrial center. The amount of trade in the city must still be a big part of their city and the occupations of the people there; however, they are probably no longer trading rag paper and silk. Sadly the city of Xi’an is no longer the capital of China although it had been for many dynasties. Another similarity to old Chang’an is the huge population, Xi’an is the highest population city in Northwest China. The city is still growing and is projected to grow even more and become one of China’s major cities in the near future.
