Chairman Mao
Chairman Mao overlooking Tianfu Square Intro
Just spent a day walking around in Chengdu, looking at some tourist attractions, some of the sopping districts, and some of the general city areas. The whole day was on foot to try and get a real feel for the place, and was quite rewarding, while tiring. Chengdu is a big place!
Tianfu Square
Tianfu Square is located right in the middle of Chengdu. It is a large open space with gardens, flags, statues and police, rimmed by a skyscraper skyline topped with construction cranes. The area is peaceful and relaxed in the otherwise busy city centre, despite hundreds of tourists. A large statue of Chairman Mao overlooks teh square, apparently one of the best examples in China.
Renmin Park
Renmin Park was a real breath of fresh air in a busy city. The park area is serene and tranquil. A place to wander and soak in Chinese culture, enjoy some green tea, and get you ears cleaned while getting massaged (no joke). A friendly guy came started talking to me here (pretty common to practice english apparently). After getting over a bit of suspiciousness we wandered around the park together, and enjoyed some dumplings, and tea in
Security in the Square
There is a very secure feeling in the square. the fantastic tea house by the lake.
I passed on the ear cleaning though.......
Chunxi Road Pedestrian District
This area is close to my hotel, and a great place to wander around and observe serious shopping in action. Good place for street food, and getting a jacket to protect e against the unexpected cold!
