Big teddy bear
Giant Panda at the breeding and research centre. We started the day with a half day tour to the centre. Until now we've tried our hardest to avoid tours as they only serve to line the hostels' pockets. This belief was renued today, when we saw the actual entrance cost on the tickets. Ah well..
Itr was a chance to see an exceptional group of creatures before they swifly fall asleep for the day. Ak, Daba, cik varena un skaista Tu!
Es Tavas skavas savu muzhu ieliktu.
Tads miers, tads nosvertums un spits,
Tev nebus "liekties" - tas liktenj rakstos ierakstits.
Pirkstus iedigt zeme, ar vaigu noglaust zali,
Skupstit ziedus, lapas, apkjert koku- manu brali.
Man dvesele atplaukst Tava tuvuma,
Ka Dzhuljeta Romeo, atzistos Tev muzhiga milestiba.
Tu esi svetaka par baznicu un Dievu,
Man cienit, pielugt, godat - tikai Tevi vienu!!!

Street life observations, China
Outside our hostel, men walk up and down the street amongst the diners, attracting attention by banging a metal pair of tongues. They wear a torch(flashlight) on their forehead like a caver. These men are ear-cleaners by trade, and many a man is it who, after his dinner, sits relaxed, head tilted, as the ear cleaner man excavates their aural cavity, twiddling the various long metal scrapers.
Two foreigners sit exhausted on the street side to regain some energy after the heat of a day navigating a foreign city by foot. The passers by are from all walks of life and on every rung of the socia
Towering.
Chengdu is a thoughly modern maid. ladder. One thing that the pedestrians share is a unique behaviour pattern- as they pass the resting Westerners, they crane their necks, keeping a steady gaze on the seated ones. Is this curiosity, suprise at new and previously unseen inhabitants of their streets? One thing is sure that in this new city, when the Westerners smile( something which before, in this new country, immediately elicited a broad and warm smile), the passer-by, perhaps not knowing what to do in this situation, or perhaps, simply fatigued by the heat, keeps on staring, straight-faced. Most intriguing....

It's Monday I guess today - it's so hard to keep a track on days when you don't do "standard" living...
We had a really nice time last night with our newly met Chinese friends. The day before yesterday we accidently got to know a man who has established NGO "Language Island"! And he is looking for volunteers who could join in and do some English teaching. He is also looking for cooperation with other similar organizations. So if anybody of those who read this or maybe your friends are interested, here is his email address -
chengduwangjian@yahoo.com.cn
His name is
Mr. Wang Jian. He is a very nice person and all his friends as well. Unfortunately they cant provide an accomadation or food as they have no money at all. If you feel like experiencing China deeper it's a good opportunity . Even though in Chengdu (or China in general) everything is rather cheap. I would love to do it myself, but I can't afford it...
If you also have any contact with organisations that work in this field - language exchange etc, and you can give him some contacts - that would be great! They still don't have a website as our friend doesnt have that deep computer knowledge! Well, if you are in Chengdu (or anywhere) and if you know how to create a webpage and you would like to help these guys - that would also be more than usefull!!!
so yesterday we had an amazing concert on the little hutong street not far from our hostel. There were around 7 people playing all different instruments, we were sitting among them and enjoying!!! This is the best experience one can expect- to integrate with the natives - that's when travel gains real purpose, otherwise, in my
opinion, it's just scraping the surface a little bit.
All through China they have green taxies - loads of them!!!!
Oh, we went to see pandas today - my advice, if you can - don't book a tour, do it yourself as the aim of those tours is to RIPYOUOFF!!!!!!!
The pandas were lovely though! Oh, I haven't eaten meat since I came back from The Gobi desert - I wasn't too keen on it before, but the real reason is that I don't want somebody to be killed so I can eat, especially when there is so much nice unmeaty food in the world to consume!😊
