Sunday afternoon my parents and I drove up to Minneapolis to stay the night because my plane was leaving early the next day. I didn't get a lot of sleep that night so the next day when I had to wake up at 4 am I was really tired.
We got to the airport and I got my tickets and headed through security. I easily found my gate and sat down to wait for boarding. My first plane was about a two hour ride to Toronto.
My plane was so empty I didn't have to sit by anybody. On my plane was members of an orchestra that were going to China to play. I wish my band trip was that cool, but no we had to go to Chicago instead.
Anyway, when we got to Toronto I found out that my flight to China was delayed an hour so I had an extra hour to kill in the airport.
I decided to walk around some of the stores they had in the airport to see what there was for food. I found a Toblerone bar that was 400 grams, it was huge! Along with Canadian smarties. I
got some of those and they are really good. When I was tired of walking around I went to my gate to wait for boarding.
While standing in line, I was talking to some of the people around me and one of the ladies I was talking to said she had gone to ISU. Then when on the plane one of my neighbors said he was originally from Iowa.
My second plane ride was going to be 13 hours to Shanghai. Because the ride was so long our plane was a 777. Those planes are enormous! They fed us everyone once in a while and one time when they came around with drinks I got a can of Coke and laughed to myself when I saw that they had everything in English and French. The plane was nice enough to have video screens on the backs of the chairs where you could watch movies. It was a good way to pass time. There was also a USB port and a powercord plug in.
I finally got to Shanghai about 4 in the afternoon, which is 3 in the morning back home. I went through customs and found my brother waiting for me. He gave me a hug and said, "Welcome to Jurassic Park!" then he offered to carry some of my stuff.
We rode on the subway for about an hour and then walked a little way to our hotel. Our room is pretty small, we have a desk, a small table and a set of bunk beds. I was feeling a little sick when we got there so I laid down for a little while. When I was feeling better, I changed clothes because I was still in the ones from the plane. Then we walked around Shanghai a little while until I got too tired. You can't really walk around too much when you're tired because you have to be alert when crossing the street, otherwise you'll get hit by a vehicle.
We went back to our hotel and had an awesome supper of oreos. Then we got ready for bed. I got the top bunk!

Yes, that is a big chocolate bar! We would probably have to share it. :-) I\'m glad that your travel went smoothly and hope that it continues that way while you\'re in China. I\'m looking forward to more blog entries and hearing all of your stories when you get home...or when I get home, that is.
