Back to where my trip started! It was kind of a sad last day in China. Jie and his family still aren't here so I went sightseeing by myself. It started thunderstorming as soon as I got into downtown and it rained for the rest of the day. I still decided to stick it out and see some of the things on my list. I went to Nanjing Road, one of the most famous streets in China. It's a huge street for shopping and has everything you would ever need, and then some. As I was walking it started pouring down rain so I got in a taxi and drove to the Oriental Pearl Tower, and enormous purple/pinkish bulbousy tower, right next to the Bund, another famous street along the Huangpu River. I walked around under it and tried to get a few pictures without my camera getting wet. I moved pretty slowly all day since I haven't been sleeping too well lately and all that stress from the visa problems burnt out a lot of my energy. Last, I saw the Shanghai city temple. I was actually supposed to see the YuYuan Garden but I didn't know that the garden
is connected to the temple, you just have to buy another ticket. I didn't find the place so I missed it. We ate our last dinner in the same restaurant I had my very first meal in China. A lot of the same dishes and they were still delicious.
So now my trip is over, we're flying back the United States tomorrow morning. I feel like it's only been a week. I'm looking back at the pictures from the beginning of my trip and I can remember each place and each picture so vividly. Literally, as if it were from yesterday. From Shanghai, to Kun Shan, to Zhouzhuang, to Suzhou, to Wuxi, to Nanjing, to Beijing, to Xi'an, to Hong Kong, to Macau, and back to Shanghai. I can't believe it's really been an entire month.
There are a lot of things at home that I miss and want to get back to, but I also don't really want to leave. There's so much I still want to see and it's a nice change from the same everyday things I'm used to back in the US. But it's been the best experience and I've learned so many
new things, about pretty much everything. China, despite some of its pollution problems and other things, is still an amazing country thats been able to preserve it's traditions and culture very well considering the Western world that they've been introduced to. I'm really glad that it was the first country I decided to explore and I definitely think it will be a lasting memory. Hopefully, I can come back soon and see some of the more out-of-the-way sights in the harder to reach areas that I wasn't able to make it to this time. The Chinese culture is so so different from my own. We do have some things in common, and they are adopting more Western customs, but there are definitely more differences than I had expected. Which is not a bad thing at all. I was happy to learn more about their culture and see the world from a different point of view.
Even if the last few days were a nightmare, I'm glad the trip was so much fun. And I didn't have any problems until the very end 😊
So thanks for reading my entries! The next place I'll be going is Germany in
September, for school. So I'll be writing about my experiences there when I go. Thanks again
