Linda and Jim
at Santiago Restaurant in Sentosa hotel Thanks to all of you who sent me birthday wishes - early, late or on time! It does get confusing sometimes trying to remember the time difference!
My actual birthday was a pretty plain day - Sammy took Leah and I to the grocery store, but Jim had a customer in from Germany, so he didn't come home for lunch or dinner! We saw him for about half an hour before he left to go out to dinner. After returning from dinner, he had a conference call to the US, so Leah and I watched a Scooby-Doo movie we had bought - which I couldn't even stay awake through!
Friday night we celebrated my birthday. Horton picked us all up, then dropped Jim and I off for dinner and took Leah to his house to play with his sons. Leah was rather nervous about it (can't say I blame her!), but she ended up having a good time. She had dinner with them, then they played and even watched some Tom & Jerry cartoons!
Jim and I went to the Santiago Restaurant, which is the name of the Western Restaurant at the Sentosa Hotel in Nanqiao. The restaurant is on the
top floor of the hotel, and I was hoping to get to sit outside, but it was pouring rain! There is a waiter named Jacky, who knew Jim from his previous trips, who has been there every time we've been to the Sentosa now, whether it be for breakfast or dinner!
After dinner, we caught a taxi and went to a local Tea House. It was beautiful inside, had a pond with fish, and birds in cages, and a lot of wood carved decor. Horton had taken Jim here a few days earlier to see if he liked it. Horton had helped set things up for us to go on Friday. When we got there, they took us to a small private room, and a girl named Misty came in as our hostess. They had told Jim and Horton that an English speaking girl would be there when we came. She told us that she is a University student studying English. She did quite well understanding us - other than bringing Jim a dish of pepper for his french fries when he asked for salt!
The tea names were in Chinese and English, but the food was only in Chinese, so
Horton had asked them to copy it down for him and he had someone at Ace translate it so we would be able to choose our food!
I had a pot of Honeysuckle tea - pretty good, maybe I should dry my leaves at home for tea! Jim had coffee first, then some green tea. Now, there was a whole page of different kinds of green tea, and I couldn't say what he had, he just pointed to one, he liked it, but I didn't. There was a clay teapot over a candle type burner that had extra hot water for us as we needed it.
I ordered rice dumplings and rice balls, Jim had french fries and Japanese style butter bread. The butter bread was just kind of like dough balls and he didn't like them, and there didn't seem to be any butter in sight! They were wheat, so I didn't try them. I enjoyed my dumplings and the rice ball dessert is what I had the first night we were here and it's delicious!
To have a private room, you had to spend a minimum of 158 yuan, which is a little over $20 USD. We didn't

Eating french fry with chopsticks - this is what the Chinese do! even use all of our money for food with just the two of us, but we really enjoyed it.
We hope to get a chance to take Leah here and sit by the pond and have some yummy rice balls before we leave!
