After a strong coffee and a pastry, it was time to venture out. Since the weather was fairly nice, I decided to spend some more time outdoors. Gotta make the most of it not being too hot or too cold. I had found a lake park, Qingshan Lake Park, online that looked quite nice so decided to head there for a walk to stretch the old legs. Even though I had taken the subway several times from near where i was staying during my stay in Nanchang, I got lost on the way there this morning. So I wandered the backstreets for a bit. I enjoyed my little unplanned detour and came across some very popular looking restaurants hidden in the back of some apartment buildings. They are probably well known to locals and visitors who are fluent in Chinese, but to me they felt very out of the way.
The subway deposited me right in front of the lake park. I made my way down to the path by the water. It was a shame that they sky was so overcast. It would have looked better with a clear blue sky. The park wa spretty quiet. There were a
few blokes fishing and some young women having a mini photoshoot. I could see a little island ahead that was attached to the mainland, but as I got closer I could see that the road leading up to it was out of bounds for us mere mortals. It was a shame as it would have been nice to see the area from a different vantage point. I continued my walk along the side of the lake and after not too long, I came to another island that was connected to the mainland. This one was also out of bounds, I did see some young men going through the gates, but thry were closed sharpish after their entry. No chance of me getting a different vntage point. I continued walking. I had planned to try to walk all around the lake, but soon came to a load of construction work, which blocked the path. Bugger! My plan was scuppered. I decided to just head back to the subway station via the route I had already taken. I did watch a few people fishing and it looked rather peaceful. The park was okay, but don't think I would bother to return as
there are probably nicer places to visit.
I was starving by the time I returned to my hotel so decided to order some food. One dish that Nanchang is famous for is Nanchang Rice Noodles (南昌米粉), so I decided to order those. After looking at a few different places online, I selected a place that did the noodles with beef, ordered those and a portion of lotus root to go on it. I didn't have to wait long for my food to be delivered and was happy to dig in when it arrived. The noodles were topped with thin slices of beef, thing slices of lotus root, chili, corriander, and peanuts. The sauce was really nice, it was spicy but had a sweet tang to it. It reminded me of something you would get in a Chinese take away in the UK. I really enjoyed my meal, all the components worked well together and there was just the right amount of each. I would definitely order this again if/when I return to Nanchang. My time in Nanchang had come to an end. I quite liked the city, it's big but not too big and the subway system made it
easy to get around. I just think I need to do more research to find new things to do if I want to return.
