Early up for this one!
The Yangtze River journey down stream from Chongqing to Yichang was an experience! Our home for 3 nights, was what we nick named 'Rusty Old Bucket'. A boat full of Chinese tourists competing for the best view and boasting with enthusiasm to go on all the tours available. Every morning we were woken by tour girls knocking on all the cabin doors at 5:30am, followed by loud speaker instructions and music blaring in the corridors, so others could get up and visit a temple or some other tourist attraction. Having already traveled across China, we didn't feel the need to participate in such activities!

The Yangtze River trip was a picturesque way to travel. Our first day on board was spent on deck watching the scenery go by. Spotting white markers along the river banks, indicating the new water level when the dam is completed in 2009. Millions of people are having to be relocated as their homes will be submerged in water. Our second day we went on a tour, The 3 Little Gorges. We traveled down narrower gorges in a smaller boat, the scenery was very dramatic, peaks towering high. Unfortunately this tour was accompanied by a continuous

Chinese explanation, of all the silly names they have called these peaks - like the frog or Mickey mouse ears!

We ate in the restaurant with apprehension growing as the days passed. Everyday was soggy plain rice 'mee fan', and a selection of vegetables. I will never look at rice again in the same way, due to my compulsory need to rest in bed the days following this trip! Ouch and yuk!
