Lei-Feng Tower
This tower is all lit up at night, on the hill right above our hotel. We had a boat tour across the West Lake this morning. It was a cool and blustery day - not what we had anticipated! We were taxied across the Lake to the Little Angel island (the largest of 3 islands on the lake). The hills around the lake were quite beautiful. Some nice pictures of the pagoda towers on the mountains in the distance.
This afternoon Richard, Dawn and I visited a hospital in the city, the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, to meet with the Diabetes Center staff. We share yet another large lunch, and then toured their facilities. We had a good chance to speak with them about how health and diabetes care is organized in our respective provinces.
This evening, Richard and I were taken to dinner by the CDC staff, and were joined by the Director General of the Zhejiang CDC. It was another night of some weird and wonderful food choices, and plenty of rice wine (yellow wine) shots! Thomas, Mommom and Auntie Dawn were quite adventerous and went out to a shopping mll for dinner and to look around. They came back safe and sound, and giggling about Auntie Dawn's abuse of
Xizi Hotel pagoda
A pagoda style veranda on the hotel grounds, looking out to the West Lake. the serving staff!! Dawn was frantically trying to look up "I'm sorry!" in the Chinese phrase book!
Richard and I spend the day at CDC tomorrow, while T and his lady companions will be doing more shopping. In the afternoon we will be leaving for Beijing on our overnight train! Another wild and wonderful experience, I am sure! Blog at you later....
