We're currently in Hong Kong, but more on that in another blog entry. First our last days in Yangshuo, China. The internet isn't great here, so might not be able to post many (if any) pictures:
Chris's Section We've really enjoyed our time here in Yangshuo. Highly recommended for anyone planning to visit China, as is the Showbiz Inn.
We hired bikes from the hostel yesterday. A bargain at 10 yuan each (£1). We set off on a fabulous ride through the paddy fields. I really enjoyed it. We went up to Moon Hill. I'll let Lou explain what happened there (see below). Scary, followed by hilarious. A good day out though.
Today we're killing time in the hostel roof bar (no booze) until we have to get the bus back to Guilin, where we'll then get the overnight sleeper train to Shenzen. A quick hop over the border will then take us into Hong Kong (where this blog will probably be posted from).
Louise's Section How to scare Chris - Method 1
Have an asthma attack whilst trying to climb Moon Hill.
No need to worry guys I am fine,
Moon Hill
The view from the top Chris understands it to have been an exercise induced asthma attack (stop laughing!!) which is not necessarily down to my level of unfitness but lung capacity, walking up vertical steps in 85% humidty after an 8km bike ride.
Arrive at Moon Hill to what I thought would be a nice stroll to begin with but no acosted by two old Sherpa ladies with boxes of stuff to sell . So off Chris and I went rather speedily to get away from them in the only direction we could see...up!! The ladies were still there so we gave in and accepted they were there to stay.
They seemed very nice and kept saying slowly slowly, which I thought we were doing. Every now and then we would stand or sit for a break and they would kindly fan me down. We could see a catch here wondering how much this would turn out to cost us. This kept on for nearly two thirds of the hill which was getting steeper and steeper and my chest feeling odd until the moment of panic for Chris when I started making funny sounds, panicked as couldn't breath and hence started to cry!!
Sherpa love
Lou being escorted down the hill by her personal Sherpa guide. All was well, bottle of water provided by the old ladies, I sat down and recovered in about 10 minutes and left Chris to carry on up the hill Sherpa less. Lucky old me was sat for 20 minutes with these kind ladies that could only say husband, slowly and postcards, husband pay later., this lead to lots of ummming and ahhing at the postcards she had produced and then came some sort of song from the ladies (at this point I was hoping another attack would come on!!).
Chris managed to get them to 7 Yuan, felt we should considering they had been lovely to me, so that was 20 Yuan for waters and my new postcards totalled 27 Yuan (£2.70). Then came photo time for Chris as I was escorted all the way back down the hill with an old lady holding my hand, I swear she would not let go and I thought Chris was going to have to buy me back off them.
So back on the bike and all fine apart from Chris laughing his tits off at me being looked after by 70 year olds but was glad I was ok.
Apart from that we have lazed about, off on the hard sleeper night train to Shenzhen tonight to arrive in Hong Kong tomorrow. 4 more days and I can buy some new clothes in Bangkok as think I have lost a dress size already, yay!!
