So back to travelling alone...must admit it takes a day or so to get back into the swing of it.
Mandy was great she knew some fantastic places to eat...HOT POT!!! at a place called Little Sheep in Shenzen...now this is what you call a real hot pot. The stock was so so soooooo tasty...my mouth is just watering as i'm having to share this thought with you guys 😊
She also knew of a massage places that was open 24hours with free accommodation...YES YES...i know what your all thinking but it was nothing like that...in fact it was very nice after a huge dinner at Little Sheep and me having to lug my rucksack about all day i was ready for my massage!!!!...all 2 hours of it!!!..
We started with a nice shower, steam room and sauna and hot tub, then we moved upstairs to the chill out room where you can have a drink and some fresh fruits watching TV and get a foot massage if required. Its a huge room with many reclining leather seats with attached TV's and the restuarants with the men sitting there drinking away.
You can see why the men would like
it here especially tho. Its like what you see in the chinese ganster movies, all the big boss relaxing and getting pamper before the big fight scene kicks off.
There was alot of couples aswell of all ages so it didnt give that sleezy feel that your first get when you hear about it.
We decide that it was time for our massage...that was at 1-2am usually the time when im out partying not relaxing having a 2 hour Chinese massage....not that im complaining it was great!!!!.. she really got those knots out of me, boy it hurt!!!...but felt great at the same time.
How can i describe the bed room, it was a simple small box, which is probably a single bed wide with cushioned walls, aircon'd and a TV...Compact but very smart at the same time.
So all this was for about 160 Yuan (thats just over 10 pounds) NOT BAD at all.
Parting with Mandy the next day was kinda sad...I personally think she was glad to get rid off me...I dont blame her, i always had a way of winding her up(Uni bunch will remember) 😊
even back at Uni we had this
love hate relationship... me like the annoying little sis who likes to tease and annoy her. I cant help it... its my way of showing my effection!!!!...hehehe
Travelling to Guilin by train, a 14 hours overnight sleeper, if i knew it was this simple and comfortable i wouldnt have NOT booked my flights. I've learnt that unless they themselves have experience it, do not take anyone words when tell you they heard its from a friend or other travellers. Is so easy travelling here, ok the language is problem but you get by, by pointing at places in your lonely planet book which have place name written in Chinese and most of the time if you get close to where you need to go they know where your heading and point you to the right direction anyway.
A regret and a great lesson for me...i could have saved my self quite a bit of money but then on the other hand i have more time to enjoy and appreciate all the places i've been to so far.
In China i have decided not to squeeze to many places in which has been alot more relaxing.
Guilin itself
was not that impressive... Longsheng again was nice but infact i have seen paddy fields like them in Kashmir so wasnt to amazed, i suppose the weather wasnt to clear to get the full glamour of it and i didnt like the hidden charger added onto the tour.
Whereas Yangshuo, i'd enjoyed am glad i cancelled my tour for the Li River Cruise after hearing that they spend most of the time trying to sell you things...dont think i would have coped to well with 3-4 hours of having to say NO!!!!....NO!!!..and you can get cheaper boat trips in yangshuo 1/3 of the price infact.
I suppose what made it a pleasnat 2 day was that i got on so well with my dorm mate Ivo from Latvia. We hired bikes for the day and went cycling through the beautiful countryside and villages, catching the simple daily life of the villagers, it real was nice and many beautiul photos opportunities.
We decided the next day that it would be nice to hire a bike/scooter as it was my last day so we could see more...ah it really was beautiful following the River Yulong upstream and catching other
coming down on the bamboo rafts.
The landscapes was stunning and the weather was great, i really did catch the sun that day.
We even fell off the bike as we was going through the tiny bumpy path through the paddy rice fields, which i found hilarious as i was just about to say how well he was doing keeping us both on for this long....luckily it wasnt muddy but we did break the mirror which we dreaded was going to cost us a fortune especially as it written in our guide books they did... Phew they only charged us 120 Yuan was expecting worse.
