Loads of free stuff
Stop taking pictures, let me get in that shower!!!
Oooh! They have a tub too!!!! Yesterday we found out, that because of the chinese holiday.
The only tickets left for our over night journey to Chongqing, were for hard seats.
No sleepers available for days.....
As we had already travelled to Xi'an on hard seats, we decided to go for it.
We knew the worst that could happen, was that we would not sleep.
(How wrong we were) So we set out early, wanting to be near the front of the queue.
(It's always a stampede for the overhead storage) We didn't want to be lumbered, nursing our backpacks for the whole 14 hours.
As the stampede began, we battled through the crowds swinging over backpacks from side to side as we went.
(Gives us great statifaction, knowing we can push people out our way for a change) Arrived on the train in time to get shelf space - Happy were we.
Until we saw what we would be sitting on and where.
They weren't wooden benches like the russian trains, but they weren't far off!!!
(Hard and plastic coated)
We both had window seats, but on opposite sides of the
Fluffy Bath Robes
Oh! The luxury of it all. train!
It suddenly hit me, this was a local train!!!! We were the only foriegners on board!!!
You could see everyone was thinking,
what the hell are they doing on here!
Because of the attention we were already attracting,
we didn't even consider pointing a camera at anyone.
Skim was not amused -
This could end in divorce!!!! (Thank God I had the foresight, to book us a few days in a 4* hotel.) So our journey started, 14 hours on a cattle truck,
with a compulsary sauna included (No aircon!!!)
Sharing a carriage meant for 110 people,
with 160 sweaty, farting, gobbing locals who were looking to warm your seat.
There were bodies lying in any available space.
Don't know if you read about Train No; 117 (No fanfare for us)-.
Well, we take it all back.
That was at least 4 times better than last nights train and I didn't think I'd ever say that.
Mind you we never ventured anywhere near the toilet this time, although we could smell it!!
Finally arrived in Chongqing feeling
It's a big bed!!!
Let's hit the sack, we need it after that journey... knackered and smelly.
Couldn't wait to get to the "Holiday Inn" for a well deserved shower,
then to do some catching up on our sleep.
A few days of relaxation will put me back,
into Skims good books -
Hopefully
