With typical fury our neighborhood celebrated the Lantern Festival with full gusto.

Honestly, you get rather numb to all the fireworks. What I find really scary are the floating lanterns in a dense and dry city of 17 million. These a light, paper, hot air balloons that are powered by a block of flammable wax the size of a cellphone. You light it on fire and then set it loose. The wax burns and the air in the paper canopy heats up sending the burning block of wax about 100-150ft into the air. From here it floats away ...

This year it was freaky watching this burning lanterns float past above our 17 story buildings wondering ... what it the paper catches fire and drops a ball of burning wax on to a top of a building or other easily lit, but hard to extinguish location?!?
