Our high speed ferry zoomed us to KRS in no time and we immediately checked into a gorgeous bamboo bungalow in M'pai Bay. Weed is as good as legal here and they sell it in the local "supermarket" so no guessing why we spent 10 days on this island. M'pai village is the only local village on the island and was absolutely picturesque. There are no roads and only a handful of motorbikes so had a really unspoilt community feel. Once we'd stocked up at the supermarket we watched a beautiful sunset from Dragonfly Bar and then the rest of the night (and the 10 days following for that fact) was spent lazing about feeling happy and sometimes hungry, enjoying island life. After a few nights in M'pai village we walked down the coast and through ... read more

Wednesday 9th December 2015 We had arranged for a private taxi boat to pick us up outside the guesthouse for $40 which would take us directly to the next island. This would avoid us walking the 45 mins back to the main pier on this side of the island, to then take a boat around the island to the main pier, to then change boats again to travel to the other island, Koh Rong Sanleoun. Although this was a huge amount to pay (and we would later need the cash!), for the convenience and the journey only taking 1.5 hours, rather than around 4 hours, we thought it was worth it. Plus, it would mean that when we arrive at Sanleoun we would have almost the full day ahead of us. The boat collected us at ... read more

So far I have spoken little about our time at the orphanage and so now I think it's about time I update you all on the real reason why we are all here in Cambodia. The four of us were chosen by an organisation called Golden Futures (who we are now a part of) to volunteer for six weeks in the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh (pa-nom pen-yuh) at an orphanage called New Futures for Children (NFC). It has been a life changing experience so far and we shall all be extremely emotional when we finish our work in 2 weeks time. I'd just like to say a quick thank you to anyone who has donated money to Golden Futures already and anybody who has helped us to come to Cambodia; for me this is especially ... read more

Day 205 (Sun 31stMarch) This was my last day in Singapore and we had done pretty much everything I wanted to do. I did fancy a visit up the ‘London Eye’ like thing and maybe a view from a hotel bar or something but really couldn’t be bothered paying the price to do so. We instead went for a bit of a hike up into Mount Faber park. Took us a while to find it as we went out the station the wrong way but when we got there met with steps, and lots of them. Totally knackered, drained, soaked and exhausted by the time we got to the top we took a breather and lie down, well I did anyways. After this we decided we’d had enough of walking in the park and headed down. ... read more

The Irish Mob So I set off from Phnom Penh for Kampot and was happily minding my own business sat on a coach when for some reason a game of musical chairs took place. The net result of which was a pretty Irish girl sitting next to me called Cathy. Over the next five or so hours we got talking and at the rest stops I met her four other travel companions; Declan, Stu, Niall and Neil. When we arrived at Kampot I was pretty set on staying at Bodhi Villa guest house which numerous others had raved about. But Cathy persuaded me to join them at 'The magic sponge' instead. Turned out to be one of the best decisions I made on my trip. The Magic Sponge We were met at the bus stop by ... read more

The last few days have been spent in Sihanoukville, and I was planning on heading to Vietnam a couple of days ago. However, Evan, a californian guy I met here suggested visiting an isand called Koh Rhung, which he had read about in the local guide book. I hadn't heard of it, and neither apparently had anybody in the tourist agencies or dive shops we asked around. They all suggested we go to Bamboo Island or Snake Island, which is apparently the standard. That said we were told that if we were desperate a boat could be rented for a mere $180 per day! We decided to try and see if we could hitch a ride with one of the local fishermen, who fish in the waters around Ko Rhung. This resulted in an afternoon-long trek ... read more
