Gazing out over Indochine
2nd entry...
Caught a modern aircon bus this morning from Saigon to Phnom Penh quite a pleasant 6 hour trip. The border crossing was quite smooth due to our friendly and efficient bus assistant. The road was quite good from Saigon to the border but once we hit Cambodia there was a noticeable deterioration in the road and the standard of living. This is a really poor country. There was a lot of road works going on, particularly around/over water-ways. No probs getting a $1 motorbike rickshaw to the lakeside guesthouse area from main bus stop. Quite hot and humid these days so the little box-like rooms for $3 were not really what we wanted so we opted for a $US8 aircon room, the extra $US5 will probably be the best money spent today. Watched the sunset from the breezy deck of our guesthouse and went off for a meal. Ate Indian tonight for $US2 which was lovely.

Aly needs to see a dentist tomorrow so will go to the killing fields the day after. After the shock and sadness of the war museum in Saigon I don't expect the killing fields museum to cheer us up but

Better than TV. Always plenty happening.
it is good for one to be reminded of past atrocities so that we may learn from that and not repeat these behaviours. Am I dreamin? Anyhow, better get back to my room the mozzies are slowly starting to find my feet although the Ozzie RID is putting up a good battle. Laters...Trev and Aly.
