We leave Vietnam today and have done a trip along the Mekong delta, it's not exactly what we thought though as we are going to Cambodia and thought it was mainly a boat trip but it's actually a lot on the bus, probably more.
We got picked up about 8am and had a 3 hour drive to the Mekong delta where we got on our boat, because we are staying the night we didn't get long, everything is rushed. We stopped at a little place where they make rice paper and popcorn and sweets which was pretty cool to see but was only there for about 10 minutes. We then had an hour on the boat to lunch where we've been brought to a little restaurant in what feels like he middle of nowhere!! We finished what we could of our lunch and had time to chill out which is where I'm writing this part of the blog. Brads been chilling on a hammock and next thing looked up and seen a HUGE snack in a cage that wasn't even padlocked properly! I'll put a picture up but it won't do it any justice!! After lunch we got bicycles 5
minutes up the road back to our boat which then took us back to our bus. We've been back on it for 3 hours Brad let me watch a film on his iPad to pass time which wasn't too bad and we have now got on a ferry taking us god knows where it's stinks and is so dirty and there's lots of poor people begging, just making me feel so uneasy. It's most definitely without a doubt been my least favourite part if our trip so far and we still have the 'floating hotel' to stay in. All I can say is hurry up tomorrow!!!!
Ok so things most definitely got worse we got off the boat and got back on the bus, me and brad made the rookie of sitting at the front and could see everything in front of us and everything the driver was doing. This wasn't too bad in daylight but by night time it was petrifying. The driver didn't care about speed or have any awareness about him it was just as fast as possible non stop, we thought we were going to be in an accident so many times!!! We definitely know
what Alex and Matt meant when they said the same about their night bus! Even when the tour guide was talking to the driver I felt like shouting STOP DISTRACTING HIM!!! Thank god we arrived safely though and here to tell the tale!!
THEN we got to the Floating Hotel and to be honest I can't even believe they had the cheek to call this a hotel it was vile and that's no exaggeration!!! We walked into the room, it was all dark wood and there were 3 beds in a row with mosquito nets that looked like an old fashioned hospital from back in the old days. That was bad enough, then we looked in the bathroom and it was actually so gross brad could have been sick and I burst into tears!! It was old and dirty with a shower over a bucket!!! Neither of us knew what to do it was just horrible. We decided to go get good as we were starving but we looked at another hotel for the night in desperation. It was £70 though, a little bit too expensive so we were sensible for once and decided to stick it out which
I know a lot of you back home will be surprised at lol but it's definitely a story to tell in the future!! We even had our lovely Danielle offering to pay for a room for us because of my very sad Facebook update lol. We literally had dinner and went back to the room, got into my sleeping bag liner and literally cuddled each other as much as possible haha!!! We didn't sleep much though and were up at 6 but when we did get up we were like WE DID IT wooo lol. In Brads words 'we completed the first bush tucker trial' hahaha.
That's enough for the first part of our disastrous couple of days I will write the next one tomorrow!!
Love B&K xxxxxxx
Oh P.S. The only slightly good part of the day was when we got to visit the crocodile farm for all of 10 minutes. It was pretty cool they have 15,000 crocodiles and are breeding everyday. We got to see them being fed fish too, they went mental was pretty mad to see. So yea, that's the good part of this blog lol xx
