I found out a secret about transportation here in SA…The Baz Bus is a bus with a trailer that drives around the whole country offering door to door service for backpackers. It is safe and relatively reliable. The only set back is that it costs about 3 times as much as a Greyhound or Intercape bus. The secret is to find out how much one of the national buses costs to get from point A to point B and simply add R50. Companies are looking for customers all the time so they will buckle for the extra 50 rand. Hehehe…The best part about this trick is that it usually costs at least R50 to get from the hostel to the bus stop. And then probably another R50 to get to your destination hostel. Soooooo its actually cheaper than using the local long distance buses! YAY! So I got a ride from J Bay to Knysna for a lot cheaper than expected! And being the shoulder season I yet again got stuck in an empty dorm room…this time 16 beds. Buuuuuuut low and behold while trying to decide what to do in the rain two German guys I recognized from a few days before strolled into the same dorm room. Yay roomies!!! We had a good jol that night but ran out of goon that these silly boys decided to bring over from a recent trip to Australia. I figured I could use my savvy to rustle up some beers but the 3 places I went to in town all wouldn’t do take away….Soooooo….I jumped in a mini taxi and headed to the township :/ Whats a township you ask? It’s the area behind a city up in the hills where the lower income people live. Think ghetto but shittier…Probably the worst decision I could make in that state and that time, but 3pm walking to a park on the main road didn’t work out for me before, so lets give this a go. Made it! We definitely had a good time after that and continued the next day by going to Mitchell’s brewery for a beer tour and tasting! Joined with us were some doctors studying in SA for a bit. Well that brewery tour continued back at the hostel with some fun drinking games and laughs all around JJJ
