This morning I woke up to an empty house. I walked out and was greeted instantly by the maid, gardener and another lady who I’m still yet to work out what exactly she does apart from sit and talk to the gardener all day. Today was spent with my Uncle Allan driving around meeting all my cousins; we had a drink or 2 in my Cousin Lee’s restaurant, an absolutely beautiful place. It has its own big damn and is very African authentic. Spent the Arvo with my Auntie, looking at photos and talking about growing up hear. Was really nice. Tomorrow I head out for my first camping experience! Fav. Drink - Mazoe Orange Crush Fav. Food - Auntie Colleens Banana Muffins ... read more

The trip to Zimbabwe began today! With the few delays experienced I may have been leaving a few days later than expected but the main thing is that I’m going to get there. I booked a Greyhound bus leaving at 8:45am and arriving in Bulawayo at 8:45pm. Driving through the main city of Jo’Burg on the way to the bus station you cannot help but notice the severe poverty around you. There are homeless people digging through rubbish, beggars at every set of traffic lights, coming up to your window selling anything and everything. A funny moment happened when I spotted a group of people climbing some ones fence; the police who surely also saw what was happened seemed more concerned at my Aunty getting of the mobile phone; in which she was ringing police anyways. ... read more

Zimbabwe is cool. Yes I know that is a very generic description but it fits Zim well. Oh and how fun is it to say "Zimbabwe". Try putting emphasis on other parts of the word, there you go, now you see what I am talking about. First off I would like to say that this country is not as bad off as the media makes it out to be. There are not gun totting Africans running through the streets shooting at any whitey that they come across. These people are the nicest African people I have ever met, so helpful and friendly. Now of course I am not really able to make these sweeping generalizations without prefacing the fact that I only really went to the town of Vic Falls and did not see the rest ... read more

I've just returned from Zimbabwe which by my own admission is probably a strange choice for a holiday vacation, and indeed there was not much of a queue at the 'IN' line at customs. Of course most people come to Zimbabwe for the wildlife, and I can tell you there is plenty of it. Being a details kind of guy I tend to notice the little things more than the elephants and rhinos. I was most fascinated by the Tock Tock beetle. These guys walk for 10 or so steps, stop and beat their butt on the ground, in an attempt to attract a partner. The problem for these guys is the best place to get noise out is to do it on a hard surface,... like a road with obvious and tragic results. My other ... read more

Zimbabwe!!!!! Ever since high school my friends Gadi Elliot, Marty, and Tyler have all screemed that beautiful word. I didn't really even know where it was until recently. To all those who still don't know where it is. It's in Central Africa. This country is Struggling to survive. The current exchange rate is 80,000 to $1. When the largest bill is 20,000 that's kind of a pain to deal with. I felt quite rich walking aroudn with 2.4 million Zims. The equivalent to 30 Us DOllars. We decided go the Casino in town, wher the limits for black jack were a dollar a hand. I ended up winning $1 million Zims ($13 US). Unfortunately the Zimbabwen economy is not very stable and they don't allow you to conver your winnings into US dollars. Oh Shux. This ... read more

all a few of the things we have seen close hand in the past few days, except of course malaria, although I do seem to be bitten by many many many misquitos. argh. taking malaria tablets though. In Vic falls at the moment. took us two days to get here via minibus from windhoek. I don't particularly reccomend this method, but it was our only option. I'll explain more later. tomorrow. Right now we are having problems withthe currency, we have usd, we need zim dollars (1:72,000) the banks are closed and you can be arrested for exchanging on the street. I don't likle to idea of zimbabwe jail, I'll be in there longer than mugabe has been president. anyway I'm famished we need to make change to get food. have no fear we only got ... read more

Now its big and impressive and very very wet. Its the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls. We have certainly viewed the falls from every angle... ...Johnny did a bungee jump and we went for the safer option of a Helicopter ride. That evening we went on a sunset booze cruise and then a flaming Absinthe session courtesy of Pierre at a engagement / stag and separate Hen celebration. Next day - severely hungover - it was white water raft - the great Zambezi... ... white water rafting - it was bad... one blind (temporarily), one puking, one damaged ankle, one mashed knee (4 stitches in hospital)!!! ... read more

L'ultraléger a l'air ultrafragile.
