May 29th and 30th
Everyone was a bit lethargic in the morning, probably something to do with the cheap booze that they had served us on the sunset cruise the night before. I had stopped drinking after JollyBoys so it had to have been the cheap rum!
We all had different ideas on how to spend our day in Livingstone, some of us wanted to go back down to the falls, some of us wanted to microlight, and some of us just wanted to enjoy our day around the pool. One thing that was for sure was that the truck needed to be cleaned before the other passengers began their trip to Cape Town. The six of us got that done in a very team driven exercise and then came up with a plan for the afternoon.
To be honest it was a very lazy day for most of us, nothing too exciting for you dear reader. We ate some food in town before getting on the internet and then heading back to the campsite. The one exciting bit about the day was the school fundraiser that they were having at the Grotto that night. Since we were
already staying at the Grotto we didn’t have to pay for the entrance but the $6 for the food was an option. A few of us stuck around the campsite and ate dinner there, it was great and I was extremely happy to hear that impala meat was available. An impala is part of the antelope family, you’ve seen pictures of them on my blog here from when we were in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It was awesome to eat some game meat on the trip and not pay buku bucks to have some served up. After filling our stomachs more than they probably should have been we all got some Z’s.
The next day was a bit of the same except without the hangover. Not sure what to do, and trying to save my pennies, I sat around the campsite till around 2pm. That’s when Justin, Cameron and I decided to get off our asses and get something accomplished. We headed to JollyBoys Hostel to join up with the free shuttle to the Lubasi Home, an orphanage in town. After getting a tour of the facilities and meeting some of the kids we got a football match
sorted out with the boys. It was a blast! I couldn’t believe how well the kids played at such young ages and WITHOUT shoes! One lucky boy did get a pair of shoes from Justin after the match, a very noble and nice gesture from the South African.
After sweating profusely and building up an appetite we headed back to the campsite to see what we could cook up. Without much success and with the electricity out in the city we decided to head back to JollyBoys Hostel (it was a much more social environment, we liked it there more). Joined with us was David (South African) and his Kiwi girlfriend, Kelly. They were a couple coming with African Trails from Livingstone, Zambia, to Cape Town, South Africa. We ate dinner by candlelight but by the time we were drinking tea at the campsite the power was back on. We went to bed shortly after and awaited the last three weeks of the trip to begin.
Not many photos this time around but really there wasn’t much excitement, apart from meeting Carlos the Chameleon and playing football with the kids.
Hope you enjoy the photos and post!
Until next time, Pura Vida!
