3rd December; Visit to Mama Jo’s organic farm

While doing research to look for income generating, I came across the case of Mama Jo, a local lady from Nambala. She was granted a loan from an international NGO a few years ago. She was given a goat and some money to start the farm.
She has managed to run the farm to provide for her and her entire family growing: Mchicha, Spinach, Onions, Chinese Leeks, Beans, Soya Beans, Green Pepper, Tomatoes, Cowpeas, Ngogwe, African Nightshades, Carrots and cucumber.
She now has 4 goats who give them milk and 2 pigs.
With the rest of the production she sells in the local market which gives her a weekly income of 10,000TZS (around £4).
Her farm is so successful that she wanted to help her community so she has created a community group called the Umoja Group which at present has 19 successful members.

Please see pictures of my visit to Mama Jo and her organic farm;

My idea is to start an organic farm in the village of Maweni; it is going to be a challenge due to the lack of water. For that, CARPIO PEREZ FOUNDATION is planning to build a water dwell.
