In 2006, our family began what we thought was a 3 year adventure of living and traveling in China. But like Gilligan, our 3 year tour turned into something much longer and deeper than we expected. This was just the beginning of our cultural travels and blogs. 3 years turned into 6 years and included a time of residence in South Korea as well. The kids have all transitioned into and out of college leaving us as empty nesters, but not empty of ambitions to continue to explore the world. Bucket showers

Every day we would discuss with our camp managers such important things as when and where we would like to dine and if/when we would like our warm bucket showers ready.

This old lion was famous in this area of Masai Mara and had earned his name.

Sundowners with Judy and Bajila

A great way to end the day. Gin and Tonic and laughter as the sun sets on a fun day together.

Riverside breakfast

Our made to order breakfast of eggs, potatoes, grilled tomatoes, homemade bread and jams, yogurt, crepes, granola, fresh fruits (papaya!), cheeses, coffee/tea/juice and more.... The setting and climate couldn't have been better too.

Breakfast grill

When this hippo grill was first put in the camp, at night the hippos came out of the river and attacked it. There are still holes in it's belly showing their attack.

Masai Mara

Tsetse fly trap

The rangers coat these flags with insecticide to attract and kill the tsetse fly, which are notorious for being attracted to the colors of blue and black.

Lilac breasted roller bird

My favorite bird on the savannah - beautiful beautiful colors!

Fire ball lilly

Tanzanian bushmen boil the poisonous roots from this plant and coat their arrows with it.

Lesser masked weaver

Males of this species weave nests over the river to attract females.

Kenyan express

I just love to watch these little guys run, tails up like a whirligig as they run.

Is it safe?

Matt was a bit apprehensive to get out of our vehicle to enjoy some lunch.

He easily started a fire with 2 sticks rubbed together and a bit of kindling underneath

Just a hare...

Mom pounced and caught this unsuspecting hare. The first of her 3 cubs to get to it won the prize.

Contentment

The little leopard looked at me with unconcerned happiness showing on his face

The other 2 cubs nursed from a very contented and attentive mom

Twisted trees

The setting sun on the Serengeti highlights the rocky area near where we spotted leopards
