Today Julie and I got up and decided to go into town, just the two of us. We needed to get some groceries and run some errands. So we went by the grocery store and then we drove around Moshi for about 20min just to take some pictures around town. After we were finished with all the things on our list we started to headed back home. But then we remembered an African lady we met at a Birthday party a few weeks ago and how she has an orphanage here in Moshi. So Julie and I, loving kids as much as we do, set off in search of the orphanage. It is called “The Kili Kids.”
We drove around and asked a lady for directions but we found it. I always enjoy meeting and loving on new kids. As soon as we walked through the gate all the kids came running! I love how even though they have never met us before they all wanted us to hold and play with them. We walked around to the back of the building to find Margaret, the lady we met at the Birthday party who runs the Kili Kids orphanage.
She had no idea we were coming so she was excited to see us. She is the sweetest lady and she speaks perfect English! She gave us a tour of the orphanage, of course a few of the kids had to help show us around too. There are 25 kids total, most are ages 2-12 and then there are also 2 teenagers. She took us round back to introduce us to the rest of the kids and her staff. As she called all the kids, I noticed there was one little boy running with his hands in front of him. As he got closer I could see that his hands were tied together in the front of him with some rope. So I asked Margaret why his hands were tied together and she informed me that he would not quit pinching all the other kids. So as punishment she tied his hands together, we all laughed together at the story. When he camp up he held his hands out and after a good talking to by Margaret she untied him. Wow, you could not get away with that in America! She showed us around the rest of the place, the
kitchen, the classroom, the bedrooms, etc. She has done a great job running the place and she cares for all the kids like they are her own. Later we asked her what was the one thing that the kids needed to most, she answered, clothes. She said they have a hard time getting enough clothes for all the kids. She said the smaller kids, especially the boys have about 1, maybe 2 outfits each. At that point the phrase flashed in my head the way is does so many times while I am here in Africa, “The things we take for granted!!” We visited and talked a while about how we could help out and when we could come help teach. After talking with Margaret we decided we will start going every Thursday morning to teach Bible stories to all the kids! Also Margaret and the 8 other staff members there will be great soil to plant God’s seed! So Julie and I are really excited about teaching the children about God, along with the adults. It is always amazing to me, the doors that the Lord opens when you don’t even expect it. Today was a wonderful day! Being
there with all the kids and to see how happy they were, it makes me smile!
I began to look back at all my other blogs and was telling Julie that many of my blogs are on the kids here! But then I began to think; teaching, helping, and being with the kids is what I love to do the most! I love to hold and love them, knowing they probably do not get enough of it at home. I love to help them learn and to see the huge smiles on their face when they have achieved something new. The way they run up to me with huge smiles and hug me every time I see them! Teaching them about the Bible and telling them how much Jesus loves them. Helping them learn new songs about God and the Bible, then to hear them sing it back out of memory the next time I am there. Teaching the children about the God and His love for them is so important but I am afraid that some people forget that sometimes. The kids are so precious and special to me and I wish I could be as forgiving and
loving as they are!
I want to thank everyone again for the support you all gave me in helping me get here. The Lord’s word is spreading through out Tanzania and the work here is flourishing as well. This is such a great experience for me and I am loving it all so much! Thank you again for everything, I just wish you were all here to see and love it for yourself as much as I do!
In Him,
Callie
