Having fun making our first Mother-Daughter Quilt
Today is our little Emily's 10th Birthday!

And We asked her what she wanted more than anything else.... (stressing that we do live in Africa, and there are limitations to what can be found) But She said that she wanted to learn to sew on the sewing machine and for us to make her a quilt together! So how could I resist! A little nervous, having just learned myself with the "Sew-Be It" quilting class that Shasta Brown taught in Arusha, and seeing how I have never made one myself, I was just as excited about the idea as Emily was! I had always wanted to learn to quilt, but just never had anyone to teach me (A Huge Thank you to SHASTA, who has shared with us a love and a passion for quilting and taught us a skill that we can now use and teach to others as well!)

We started with deciding what size we needed it to be and then started trying to make up our own unique design... I let Emily plan it out, seeing how it was going to be used in her room. we picked the colors and began cutting the

material on Wednesday afternoon and spent the day on the floor in the dining room laying it all out, thinking, OK now here's the way it's supposed to look when we're done... and then we went to bed...

The next morning We got up early and I began teaching Emily how to thread and use the sewing machine to begin with and how to sew a straight line. She got the hang of it really quickly and began sewing the blocks together all by herself... I created a few fancier blocks for the center and corners while she was working to surprise her as a gift for her birthday, but other than the surprise blocks, she sewed it all together herself! After a long day of sewing, She asked me to help her sew the strips together to finally complete the top layer of the quilt! We stood back and smiled... It was done (well kind of) the first stage was complete and we both couldnt wait to call Shasta and say, ok What's next??? So While Brent's in Arusha this afternoon, he and Emily are going to go by and get some batting for the center layer from

Shasta and then we'll work on backing it and quilting it all together later this weekend... But I was so very proud of how well she did and how much she loved working together with her mama on creating something, that we will both treasure forever!

Of course Garrett and Gracie looking on wanted to join in the excitment, so in the meantime, we cut fabric and painted some sports balls and equipment and then made garrett some one of a kind curtains for his room to match the comforter we had brought over with us from the states! He was excited to sew the pieces together himself too! Gracie was happy with just getting her hands into the paint and creating a few new pictures for the refrigerator for mom and dad!

Last Sunday, We went and visited the church at Kingore again to see how the brethren there were doing and took Anthony & Shasta along with us, or I should say we met them half way there, since it's in between Arusha & Moshi on the main road and then took them for an offroading adventure through the rough terrain of the Kingore area

to find the back way to the church building, Short story (we made a wrong turn but got there anyhow) Just a little bumpier than usual! Anthony taught Bible class and Brent preached the lesson during Worship, with 22 present that morning it was a glorious Sunday in East Africa! We passed out some of the hundreds of ICYC Tshirts we brought over with us from Northport while we were there and Anthony had brought some men's pants and shirts in his truck to hand out as well. But I took a few pictures that I wanted to share but in the last blog we had too many graduation and house pictures to include them all....

I had a great study on Tusday afternoon with a lady named Jenifar Jonas and we started with where she was and what she believed... and went from there to discuss what the Bible says about salvation and she was amazed at the scripture and the things she had just never read before. , Covering Baptism, One faith, One Lord, & His church... & the study ended due to a downpour of rain and we agreed to meet again this afternoon, so I

Gratitude
Dear friends, I just wanted to express again my appreciation for your taking the time to share your life there and how grateful I am that you and your precious family are making the sacrifices necessary to serve God in such a wonderful way. I'm sure your life is blessed in ways that our world in the states will never know unless we were to come there. Thanks so much for sharing your family celebration of Miss Emily's 10th birthday with the making of the quilt, sewing, curtains, and painting. You all have done wonderful jobs and I'm sure the memories will never be forgotten. Keep up the good work and remember we are praying for a bontiful and rich harvest. Love to all!!
