Today was an wonderful day!
We had another study with the Muslims today and we ask Rod to help us....just in case. So when we went to his house, it was Rod, his translator Emmanuel, Mom and I. The man was really curious about baptism, so Rod explained it to him for about an hour. Rod is really able to make things so clear! The man wanted to know more before he accepted the gospel, so we set up a study for the next day.
Then we went back with our regular team. Paulina and Maddie joined us, as well as Abigail Gee. She and her twin sister, Lindsey came to help us today. Their parents, Jimmy and Trina, are missionaries here.
I didn't mention the other teams! I'm sorry! Usually, Debra and Brad are on a team, with Lauren sometimes. Then the next team would be Anita Hochdorf, Janet and Jane. However Anita and Janet were not there today, so Jane's team consisted of Lauren, Lindsey Gee, and Sarah, along with some other girls who go to church there. Rod generally goes by himself, with his translator. He doesn't need any help and attracts people like
a magnet!
So our team went to Jacklynn's house. She is a young lady who we saw yesterday, and eagerly begged us for a Bible study. Our study is where we ask the student to read verses out of the Bible, and then we ask them questions. The answers are right in the verse that they just read, so we're taking it straight out of the Bible. We don't have a study book, so they won't get confused when we tell them the Bible is the only authority. Maddie and I ask questions, Jacklynn read verses, and Abigail wrote the verses down. At the end of the study, Jacklynn said she wanted to be baptized that afternoon!Wonderful!
We went back to the church building to have lunch and brainstorm for our kid's class. We were going to study about Creation, and about Where We Can Pray. On the way here we made about 35 bracelets, with each bead representing a day of Creation. Now, we were trying to think of something we could give them for Praying. We finally decided to cut out "praying" hands and write "pray" (in Swahili) on them.
Thursday was the first day of the men's
Bible study in the afternoon, which Rod and Brad taught.
For the kids, we started out by reading Genesis 1, with Paulina translating. Then we handed out bracelets and sang some songs.
After that, Abigail, Maddie, Paulina and Mom went to Jacklynn's house. Lauren, Lindsey and I continued the children's class, and we played bata bata kuku, and the older kids joined in when they got out of school.
Then, with Sarah translating, Lauren read a little story with pictures about where can I pray, and told the story of Creation for the benefit of the older kids. Then we handed out more bracelets and hands.
It was wonderful! There were 33 kids there!
When we dismissed them for the afternoon, they went to the edge of the church yard and sat down and began talking....and laughing....and looking at the things we had given them...and I was so happy about that, and that the kids came, not because anyone made them, but because they wanted to, and that they really seemed to have a good time!
Well, the rest of our team arrived, but no Jacklynn. They had continued studying with her some more, about traditions, and the Church of
Christ. Jacklynn wanted to study some more, but she told us that she couldn't be baptized that day because she is only 17 and her parents could throw her out of the house if she did not get their permission.
That night we went out to eat supper at the Stafford's house, and then went back to the School of Preaching. We play Phase 10 a lot at night!
