Today was our first Lord's Day of the new year and our last Lord's Day in this part of Tanzania. We chose to go to the Monduli congregation today. A few days ago the preacher there indicated he would like for us to come and say goodbye to the congregation. We gladly went there to see the brethren and bid them farewell. George preached the morning lesson. Afterward, an older man gave some parting words and then the congregation sang "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" in Swahili. This evening we had one more bible study with our neighbors. It's a big tug on our hearts to leave them at this point. They are very attentive bible students and want more. We will do our best to hook them up with someone here to ... read more

The vacation part of my African adventure have been on a week now, and I'm loving it. Liam arrived a little after midnight on the 24th, and it was unreal getting to see him again. We spent several minutes at the airport just grinning at each other. We stayed in Mombasa for 3 days to help Liam get over jet lag and to see the sights. Our hotel was right down the road from the old Portuguese stronghold, Fort Jesus, so we walked down to check it out. It was built in 1593 by the Portuguese, and it its long history it has also been held by the Arabs and the British. The fort was turned into a museum and national monument soon after Kenyan independence, so now people can go and look around it. We ... read more

Arusha is inland and on the rift valley that continues from the Jordan river down to the South of Africa. Due to its elevation of about 1,400m, it has a pleasant climate all year round, especially compared to the humid coastal regions. Now that we were in Arusha, it was time to organize a safari. Roy Safaris, was just up the road from the Outpost, and we got great service from them. We'd highly recommend them to anybody who wants custom private safaris. They don't do group safaris, but will point you to other operators who offer cheaper group safaris. The safari broke our budget, but it was well worth it. Wyn was just the perfect age to appreciate everything he saw. He'll have some great memories as a result. In Arusha, E.. broke her reading ... read more

Hi Another interesting week in Arusha! Last Thursday i met my friend Mati (who runs a safari company called Amigo Safaris and her partner Fredi) for dinner We never really have time to meet and also we are all very short of money but we made an effort and met at Via Via. They had never been there in the evenings but had heard a lot about thursday nights there. Well, we met there @ 7 expecting it to be an early night. We sat at a big table, something I never ever do..but I did!we ordered a drink and started to talk about the children, orphanage, projects etc; a while later a guy just sat on the same table quite close to us; we were speaking in Spanish and the guy turned out to be ... read more

Our work with the Andrew Connally School of Preaching has been rewarding. I am especially thankful to have been the teacher for such vital classes as Homiletics I and II, The Preacher & his work, Personal Evangelism, Marriage & Family, Romans & Galatians, Missions, and Minor Prophets. Other classes I have taught to previous graduates have included: Isaiah, Luke, and Greek I. The eight men, who came to us from various places in Tanzania and Kenya, have studied with great diligence. Following my last instruction day with these students, they all filed into the Land Cruiser, and came to our home. Joy and Lindsey had prepared a wonderful meal to honor their upcoming graduation. We enjoyed a nice visit while the meal was receiving final preparations. It is interesting to know that depending upon where a ... read more

We went yesterday to measure the plot for the orphanage; Sandra was still here and she wanted to measure it so she could start designing the plans and between Jose and her they measured it; it is not as big as we first thought but it is enough to accomodate 20 orphans. The view are just amazing! from any angle you can overlook the magnificent Mt Meru. I could not find a better place to offer a good home to the children. I met Sunday, a 1.5 years old orphan; his mum passed away in July and the father ran away, something very commom here! His blin grandmother is taking care of him...well, i do not see how so their neighbours give the a hand! he is going to be the first orphan in CPF ophanage! ... read more

My travels have taken me from Dar-es-Salaam by Kenya Airways (pretty good) to Nairobi. After a deep breath, some relaxation at the Southern Sun Hotel (to be reviewed) and some work, then by road back to Arusha in North Tanzania. In fact Arusha is only some 285 kilometres from Nairobi so this route is normal and convenient for many folks doing business in the area. Convenient it may be, but it's a "shake and stir" ride for which you need a well-upholstered 4X4 (in any event you do if you are aged over 25). The outward trip from Nairobi took 6 hours leaving at 12 noon in a rented Toyota Hilux. The road is probably 60 percent completed on both sides of the border, where the Chinese contractors have done their work there is a reasonable ... read more
