Things have improved a bit since last entry! Settled in ok, been working on site. It's about a 30min drive over the other side of the valley from the lodge i'm staying in with beautiful views of the mountains. The clouds roll in between 2 peeks above us. But the poverty is striking, particularly set against the obvious money that is here. Coping with the all-girl volunteer group is the biggest challenge. Makes me feel a bit old! Lack of privacy is a challenge too. Haven't been able to get this old laptop to recognise the camera so no pics for the mo. And the keyboard is a little unpredictable hence brevity. Lots of stuff to do in free time but going to take it slow this week. Haven't made it into the capital, Mbabane yet. The work is hard but rewarding. Had first magic moment today driving home after great day of making mud bricks to build a house for a gran who looks after her grandchildren on no income. Sefiso, the Swazi guy who runs people around in the minibus and works on our project, had his africa dance music blaring, the sun was out over the mountains and the kids from the village ran after us away from the project site.
The pack turned up tues evening. My socks were toxic by then.
My cooking has already proved a hit so i'm doing more this weekend. The lodge is lovely, set in grounds with camping, a beautiful garden. Every so often i remind myself i'm actually in southern africa, finally doing this. So much i could write but everyone goes to bed early as it gets dark and cold early.
