Woke up in the morning feelin’ like a drank a gallon of wine the night before..but that’s probably because I did. The first hour was a bit brutal but I think I found a new cure to a hangover, washing dishes! Only kidding but it wasn’t as bad as it sounds, I promise.
After everyone had managed to get some food in their stomachs and pay off their bar tabs, we packed our things in the truck for what would be one of our last drives in the truck.
The whole valley we drove through on our way to Stellenbosch was incredible, the landscape was like nothing I’ve ever seen. We passed vineyard after vineyard and lake after lake. At one point we drove through a pass and out of the valley. In the distance there were actually mountains with snow capped peaks! This isn’t very common in South Africa actually according to the locals.
We stopped for lunch at a gas station and after I returned from the bathroom I met a Dutch guy outside. We chatted for a bit, turns out he had been on the road for about 7 months, and had
gone from Amsterdam to Cape Town, on bicycle! Amaaazing! We talked about his trip for a bit before I joined the rest of the group for lunch.
After eating some strange nachos and burgers we jumped back in the truck and headed for Stellenbosch. The scenery continued to impress with large plateaus littering the landscape. We arrived in the university city about 15 minutes before the USA kicked off against Slovenia, and I made it to the pub around the corner from the Stumble Inn on time to see the national anthem. The game turned out to be entertaining and I thought the USA had won it at the death only for the referee to make a bad decision and leave us with a draw at 2-2.
Post match we all got together at the hostel, the eleven of us ready for one of our last nights out. We all went out to eat together at a pizza place while we watched the English national team played Algeria. At half time we went to another pub and watched the match end in a 0-0 draw. After the disappointing match ended we continued our pub crawl and had a
few laughs before finding a place to dance. It turned out that 80% of the university population had left for holidays, so that made it a sort of ghost town. Farron, Nicio, Wendy and I made the best of it and found a dance floor. After dancing the beer out of our systems we headed for our beds and called it a night.

The next day wasn’t a very memorable day. A lot of us sort of sat around and used the internet, curing our headaches and sore stomachs. We woke up at various times of the day from our naps and to have a short walk around the neighborhood in search of food or phone credits or internet. For those that stayed behind the day was pretty mild but for others like Bridget, Dafydd and Paul they enjoyed an extensive wine and cheese tour outside of town. They came back with big grins and in laughing fashion while the rest of us were watching the world cup.
Later on that night we went out for a chinese dinner together, the wine drinkers and cheese eaters staying behind to continue what they had begun
6 hours earlier. After eating large amounts of chinese food we all headed back to the hostel to have a movie night. We kept it tame and went to bed at a decent time with the last drive of the trip looming for the next morning.
Sorry I didn’t take a lot of photos for this post, my smaller back up camera has broken and I don’t like taking my only remaining camera out at night.
Hope you like the post and photos! Until next one, Pura Vida!
