Yogini Sarah
There's nothing better than advertising by placing a yoga map right in everyone's way. Hey there everyone-
I'd like to first send all the love and thanks for all that you were whilst we were back home in SF; it was great and rejuvenating to see all of our peoples. We know that everyone's lives are hectic and we are thankful that you all took time outside of that crazy rat-race box to spend time with us. We totally love you all.
Well, we made it back to Cape Town; all of us :Sarah, Kate, and I. Just in case some of you may not know, our friend, Kate (Marie's sister) has come out to join us in teaching and running It's Yoga Cape Town (our big-little yoga studio).
Going back to the epic travel, after 35 hours in transit, 9 hours of it sleeping at Heathrow Airport in London and the other hours in flight, it was great to set back down in the beautiful environment called Cape Town. Once we landed in Cape Town, everything was a breeze: immigration check, non-existent customs, quick and accurate baggage collection, and finding our ride home. Our friend, Chris picked us up in his Combie (VW Van) and drove us home to Blouberg
In the Nursery Again
Here I am getting reacquainted with the native plants. "Missed you guys." (about 30 minutes from the airport). We must have brought the California sun with us; the sun was radiantly shinning and the wind enticed us with the sweet variety of Cape Town smells. When we left here in July, it was the midst of winter: freezing rains and howling winds. Whilst we were in SF, the weather couldn't have been any more perfect. We must have brought that same perfect weather with us. That is until today, Monday, September 8; the South African Mother Nature must have remembered what season we are actually supposed be in and graced us with more freezing and howling times. *But first things first.
After arriving home from the airport, the first order of business was to have a decent cup of coffee and then lounge (bouts of reading and napping) for the remainder of the day. The 3 PM nap turned into an all night affair.
We finally arose Saturday morning, Sarah and my 5 year anniversary, to another beautiful Capetonian day: endless sun and a cool breeze. We spent our morning hours enjoying our "welcome back" breakfast: huevos rancheros. Since we brought back tortillas from home, it was only natural to
The Table Cloth
The Table Cloth, as it is know by locals, the incoming clouds, drips over the surface of Table Mountain. combine that with farm fresh eggs, thus creating the Mexican breakfast in South Africa. The only problem was that we wanted to make those huevos rancheros, but forgot to bring back enchilada sauce; so Sarah made it from scratch. With our hot plates of goodness, we all sat out in the morning sun and enjoyed this epicurian delight, as the sound of the rolling waves comforted us. Today, Saturday, was big shopping day; our fridge was completely empty and the pantry look like a deserted barn. Lucky for us our friend, Jacqui, let us borrow her car so that we could maximize our shopping experience: Pick-n-Pay for basic grocery goods, Fruit and Veg City for all our produce, and let's not forget about the Bottle Store (Bev-Mo of Cape Town). After a 3 hour adventure through the fantastically ornate aisles of Cape Town's stores, we returned home for some pool-side chilled white wine, bread and cheese, fresh figs in olive oil, and the great company of ourselves (and Jacqui). Since we were still getting acclimated, tiredness leaked into our eyes, but alas, we had just one more event to attend: a welcome back braai (bbq) at our good friends' Chris
Who's serious
Kate Tyler and Ben playing around for THAT PERFECT shot. and Ewa's house. Lucky for us that they only live minutes away via bike because I don't know if we could have made it due to our zombi-like state (mental state, not physical, at least not the girls). It was a truly needed; a relaxing session of home cooked food and good company, again. Apparently, we indulge in many great food and great company exercises out here. We shared this romantic experience with 5 of our friends and biked home, only to fall swiftly onto our dreamworld beds.
Sunday is Sunday; lounging around, reading in the courtyard, napping, and taking the dogs for a walk on the beach; resting for the upcoming work week. You know, that old chestnut.
So finally Monday; we returned to our routines. Sarah took Kate to teach a multitude of yoga classes and to get a feel of town (Cape Town), and I ventured back to the Fynbos nursery in Melkbos. As excited as I was to return to my routine and work, I was atmospherically suppressed by the torrential morning rains. Not only was it raining, but the bus never came to bring me to work. It's kind of like
Canal Walk
The largest Mall that we've ever seen; bizarre, it's here in Cape Town. the San Francisco Bay Area. Rain or bad weather has this bizarre effect on public transportation; obviously they are not water proof (maybe water resistant to 3m, but not waterproof). Either they are extremely behind schedule due to leaks or unforeseen, water manipulated malfunctions, or even rain effected traffic delays; OR they just melt into the cosmos like the wicked witch. For me, it was the wicked witch; the bus never came or just never existed. I did make it to work, finally. Drivers often pull over to bus stops and give a lift to whomever is going their direction (yes, hitch-hiking, in a way, except my thumb was never pointed up). Dolphin, a fellow bus rider, decided not to wait in the rain any longer. He went home, fetched his car, drove by the same bus stop that he waited painstakingly at, and picked up my Mozambican friend, Carlo, and I for a quick ride through the bush to our places of employment.
Ah, it's nice to be back.
I just wanted to let everyone know that we safe and are doing well. We will write more as soon as we get our bearings.
Thanks for all that you are.
Love-
Benji & Sarah
