We were fortunate during our first weeks in Cape Town: Lindsey's cousin, Lucy, was in South Korea and her car was available for our use. This gave us freedom and the flexibility to explore the Western Cape. However, there came a point when we had to give the car back. We arranged to visit Anneke in Fish Hoek. Without wheels we decided to try public transport. Lindsey, after much searching, found there was a train from Mowbray, a suburb close to where we are staying, to Fish Hoek. Trains in Cape Town have a reputation making them sound as lawless as the Wild West. Everyone we spoke to had a horror story: tales of bag snatchings as doors opened; pickpockets targeting crushed commuters; and even knife point muggings. Dear Friends, So here I am in Cape Town with an oversized head, sitting at home with nothing to do while the surf is the best it has been in a few weeks. To say the least I am feeling quite bummed (I will get to the oversized head later). I finally arrived in Cape Town on Monday (I was supposed to be here Saturday evening). There was a pair of nice guys waiting with my name on a piece of paper. They were part of a taxi service to get me to Muizenburg (where I will be staying in Cape Town). Barbara and John’s Newsletter from the Cape So there is such a thing as warm weather. So far temperatures have ranged from 25-30 degrees, centigrade! The Cape is fantastic, so say us from day one to day six. The initial impressions, apart from the townships you see on the way from the airport, are one of great scenery and an ambiance of everything being so laid back. Our stay in the Cape has been memorable with some of the most impressive mountain and ocean/beach scenery you can imagine. We stayed in a large apartment in Clovelly, called A Room with a View.
