If you go to Paris you visit the Effile Tower, if you visit London you go to Buckingham Palace. So it is only right that when in south Africa I go visit Kruger Park.
Paul Kruger became President of South Africa in 1883 after the first Anglo Boar war.During his time as President he instigated legislation to conserve wildlife. In 1893 the area between Sabie and Crocodile Bridge was proclaimed the Sabie Game reserve, from which the present Kruger National Park has now been developed. Kruger Park is 380km long and on average 60km wide. The Park house all the Dangerous 9 (Lions, Buffalo, Elephant, White & Black Rhino, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Hyaena & Crocodile) as well as many species of Birds and of course Giraffe, Monkeys, Mongoose & Zebra. This park is a natural reserve as in that no one feeds any of the animals, they all fend for themselves, so Lions will hunt and kill to eat etc.
So on Thursday morning at 8am 7 of us and Adela & Bee drove the hour and half road trip to the Orpen Gate to the Park. Once inside the park you cannot leave the vehicle at any stage apart
from designated Camp sites. As soon as we started this amazing 8 hour drive we were met by all sorts of wild life, Impala, Zebras, Elephants, Kudu, Blue Wildebeast, Nyala, Baboons & Giraffe. So I know many of you can remember Windsor Safari Park well these animals were in fenced in. At kruger all the animals mix with each other or not as the case may be. It was great to watch the Impala at the watering hole just metres away from the Crocodiles that at any moment could jump out of the water for a tasting Impala snack. Or watching the Old male Elephant push other the Trees to get to the leaves and branches at the top. We even saw in the distance a pride of lion that must have made a kill earlier in the day as a group of Vultures were waiting for thir turn in the circle of lifes meal chain.
During the course of the day we made a few stops in some of the Camps for refreshments and food. Kudu Burger and chips for me, (Kudu is a large deer) very tasty but nearly deadly for mel as out of the blue
whilst chewing on her burger she started choking. After removing the chewed up piece of meat she was fine, and as many of us have done before spent the next 10 minutes laughing our heads off. (Sorry Mel)
At about 5.30pm it was a quick drive to the exit at the Paul Kruger Gate to leave by 6pm. Anyone that leaves after this time are subject to a fine. We made it and then headed to Nelspruit (City for the region of Limpop) for a nights stop over at the Lakeview Lodge, before our journey on in the morning
Once we arrived at the lodge it was time for a Meal of BBQ Chicken and Salad washed down with some Nice red wine. After a few of the group went to bed the rest stated to play drinking games (Again)
Right, So hve any of you played "Blow Job" before, no then let me explain.
1. Get a tall glass and put a shooter drink inside (or any mix of alcohol, as we did)
2. Place a pack of cards on top of Glass
3. Take turns to blow of the cards without blowing of the
last card or not blowing any of the cards off.
4. If you blow of the last card, touch the cards with your hands or dont blow any of the cards of you have
to neck the drink in the glass
5. If you neck the drink you now have to pour a new mix of drink and restack the cards
6. Repeat until you cant repeat no more.
After a few misses myself and loads of shots of really strong mixtures it was time to sleep before our journey towards home in the morning via the Panarama Drive though the mountins.
