Kris and Laurel, Paulo, Steve and Dieter. You should recognise the other two.
Seven of us set out from Bulungula with the aim of hiking the thirty km to Coffee Bay, via Hole in the Wall. Kris and Laurel were two of our companions, and like myself and indeed our trusty guide Simon, there were a few hangovers. We were warned to keep Simon out of the shebeens we would pass as we may not make it! A shebeen is an illegal pub, or someone usually just selling beer out of their hut. From Bul' to HitW we would head inland over hills and through fields and then from there to CB we would follow the spectacular coastline. The first hour passed quickly, without any other signs of life although we were thankful when we saw the first hut in the distance where Simon said we would stop for a rest. By the time we actually reached it we were already knackered and glad for the break. Fortunately or unfortunately they only had beer and somehow it was ice cold. One old guy had a small radio and the only thing he could pick up was a super 14 rugby match featuring the Western Force. Of all the places, I could have stayed all

The sound wasn't great but atleast the kid had talent!
day! A young kid came in to busk for us with a make shift violin and was not only crafty for making it, but talented in playing it. From there we continued on until Simon met a friends brothers, mothers, cousin twice removed who coincidentally had a shebeen. Goats milk this time. Tasty! At the next shebeen was carton beer. Shake shake! By the time we actually reached HitW we were absolutely shattered and couldn't bear the thought of another three hours or so as we had already been going five! At no stage was Simon without a spliff or a long neck or both, and only Boot Camp Henderson could keep up with him. HitW marked the end of our feelings of being the only people around and as soon as we approached we came across power lines, big satellite dishes for tv's and offensively loud trail bike and quad riders! Dave had told us HitW was a white SA hangout surrounded by barbed wire and he was right, very ugly. The actual Hole was awesome and we followed the coastline for the next few hours. It was absolutely spectacular and very similar to Victorias Great Ocean Rd coastline.

Simon, on the right with a tin of goats milk, and heaps of carton beer in the crates. Shake it up, let it settle and consume with eyes closed and an open mind!
By this time however I could only concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other, whereas Hendo was getting ancy at having to wait for us all, including Simon who was even starting to lag, and went off trail blazing! I was so proud of her, as should all you bootcampers!! I was also thankful that she took in the scenery and could tell me about it later! We eventually reached CB and all I could do was put the tent up, have a quick bite and pass out. I was actually physically sick I was so Knackered. I guess the hangover, shebeens, sun and 30km with my pack was too much! I had the best sleep of my life, whilst the others went to a full moon drum and base party.
