Still travelling on dusty, sandy, corrugated roads but only 2 more nights and we will be back in South Africa and blessed tarmac. There have been some beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the way and some magnificent scenery but we think we are 'deserted out' now. Sand, sand and more sand ... but a variety of colours.

Yesterday was a particularly bad road although it was only about 140 kms most of which I drove. When we arrived at the Betta campsite I was having difficulty understanding exactly where Mark wanted me to park the van. The side door ended up being on the wrong side so I said the van needed turning around. Mark said "Well if you're so clever you reverse it in!". So I did and he hasn't mentioned it since!

We are now at Aus and have been out to see the feral horses who roam the plain. Also saw lots of Southern Orynx (Gembok). Apparently there are 'naughty baboons' around here and we have been warned not to leave any food out and to close the shower block doors as we come out. I wonder what they get up to? Also on the lookout for scorpions who climb into your shoes if you leave them about. Massive weaver bird nests hang in the trees and someone stuck their telescopic camera lens up to one of the holes and got it pooped on.

Looking forward to the delights of tarmac roads, grass and washing machines!

Off to Ais-Ais tomorrow and Fish River Canyon which is one of the 3 largest canyons in the world. The largest being the Grand Canyon in the USA.Sesriem to Betta to Aus
