Hi Everyone
Well it’s been a few days since my last post....pretty much due to the lack of internet facilities in the Okavango Delta area. We’ve been roughing it bush camping with no shower and a long drop loo in the most beautiful places

When I left you last time we were in Kasane Botswana. We had yet another night of playing cards and drinking in the camp bar and yet another early morning after when we hit the road to the Okavango......600 km’s of road....with a few sightings of lions, zebra, giraffe and impala. We hit the delta area and were taken by boat....a very cold and wet 90 minute boat ride through the delta pan handle to a village called Serongo. We were then shepherded onto trucks to take us to our camp through some very basic villages...but always with the odd satellite dish and solar panel on the grass hut roof! The next day we were taken deeper into the delta to a remote bush camp on an island that was only accessible by mokoro (canoe) we were taken out in the afternoon for a paddle (well actually the driver of the boat is called a “poler”) and a walking safari...we didn’t get to see any game on the safari but heard plenty of hippos on the way back to camp....last week a couple of canoes had been charged at by a hippo so we were a little nervous! We made it back safe and sound to camp for dinner and were entertained later by the local guys performing a few dances and singing for us.

The morning after we were picked up by mokoro and then a very long truck ride to another boat trip to our nights digs.....on a houseboat! We had beds, flushing toilets, showers.....absolute luxury :-) A few of us went out fishing on the delta later...no fish unfortunately, luckily Irvine our cook had made us a beautiful roast chicken for dinner....

So today we spent most of the time on a boat transferring back to our truck then about 300km’s across the border to Namibia. We’re in a town called Rundu, after a few days of peace and quiet on the delta it was a bit of a shock to have cars and people around us.

Tomorrow we head to the Etosha National Park....I’m hoping for a Rhino or two and maybe even a few more lions :-)

Before I go here’s a couple of notes.

Kerry - Sorry I looked out for postcards on the Okavango Delta but no luck I’m afraid....will look out for something else :-)

Troy Boy Brown - Thanks for the giggle :-)

Michael - Congratulations on the house purchase. I’m looking forward to staying with you when I get back :-)

Everyone else.....HI :-) Oh and photos next time I PROMISE!!

Canoes and Hippos !
Sounds like you are having far too much fun and enjoying the scenery....can you tell that I am jealous? Funny thing about canoes and hippo's...they normally don't go well together but glad that you enjoyed this. Look after yourself and enjoy the sunshine/heat...it has been raining here for a week and more to come next week.
