So I stayed for a bit longer... I rescheduled my flight from 25 January to 25 March. Then I realised I was not done with Tofo so I rescheduled to 5 June....and lets see if I go then! It is still ridiculously hot here, and if possible even more humid. Apparently it is meant to cool down now as we are moving towards winter. Sounds good to me but I'm worried about the water temperature dropping. Finally, 10 days ago, I finished my course and now I am a Divemaster!!!! Hurrah! It feels great and now I am working for the dive centre and actually making money!! Oh yes, you heard it - I am making the big bucks, perhaps as much as 3k per annum...now thats certainly a grand income! oh dear.. The diving is ... read more

Mozambique Welcome To Mozambique Where You’ll Find The Best Prawns........ …..so says the sign that welcomes us as we enter Mozambique. I can’t wait!!!! The main attractions of Mozambique are the capital, Maputo, and some of the beaches along the coast. We are going to the coastal resort of Lake Bilene. It’s also of interest to me because I nearly took a job in Mozambique 30 years ago - we’re only here for a few days but it’ll be interesting to get an impression of what I missed out on! One of the guide books reassures us that “most of the landmines have been cleared” - I’m not going to be disappearing behind a bush for a pee when the truck stops! Hey everyone! I know its been a while since I last blogged but I just wanted to quickly tell everyone I'm still alive. I've just been told the cafe closes in 5 min so this will be a quick post. Everything has changed since I last posted. New tour leaders, new people on the tour and new countries. To date I've traveled through Kenya Tanzania Malawi Zambia Namibia Botswana South Africa and Mozambique. My favorite has been Tanzania because of the amazing National Parks, culture and people. I'm on the beach in Mozambique right now and its almost dinner time. Fresh fish and crayfish tonight that was bought in the local market. I will be in South Africa again soon where internet is more accessible so I will post again asap!!! Missing everyone back home and ... read more

Mozambique - wohoo! On the 15th November 2009 we entered through the Giriyondo border post into the Limpopo park. The boirder went fine and we got our visas, phew! The road was meant to be ok for a 2 wheel drive...hmmm. Bless Janis, she fought the whole way through and she managed the park ok. We drove crazy roads for a long time to make it to a camp by the Massingir dam. It was stunning. Complete peace. No one else there but one car. It was in the middle of the park, no fences so that wa sa bit creepy but considering since enbtering the Mozambiquan side of the partk we hadnt even seen as much as a bird..we figured it was safe! We had a lovely braai with burnt sweet potatoes and some good ... read more

Arrived back from Mozambique on Sunday dec 20th, spent all of Sunday night in emergency room, was woken up the next morning at 6am by lovely nurse/attendant lady and proceeded to main road to catch mini-bus to police station in Mowbrey…have I got your attention yet? - If not that’s all good, I’ve got more…. ;) What happened in Mozambique… Moz is kinna halfway between Africa (the really real Africa) and the tropics. The beach is all white sand and little tiki huts and palm trees and washed up coral and general serene heavenliness, while the villages and roads are lined with women carrying huge baskets on their heads and little stalls selling mangoes, cashews and Vodacom airtime. The dirt is this delicious copper red that sets off the crazy blue of the sky and billows ... read more

Vilanculos might be worth visiting a couple of days. Be ware of thieves though. Robbery has increased and still is. Don't stay at "Dolphin Dows" I was assaulted by 4 guys who stole my handbag upon arrival. Junior, the owner of Dolphin Dhows, seemed at first very helpful and competent. He somehow got my bag back. Empty. He accompanied me to the Police. He knows both the Police and the thieves very well, he said. The Police wrote a list of missing items by hand on a piece of paper but I got no copy. After two days Junior and the Police returned my passport, air ticket and Visa credit card to me. I signed a document for this and got a copy. Junior told me to be happy since theese things were the most important, ... read more

Day 58 - Tofo - 25/9/09 Woke up a very sleepy Michelle at about 0430 to make sure she would be ready to catch the minibus. I, like always was up earlier then needed, I packed the final little bit into my rucksack and waited in the reception area for the shuttle bus to arrive. The driver came into the reception and beckoned everybody onto the minibus; we all pilled in and set off. We stopped off at the bus stop, I actually use the term bus station very loosely; actually it should be described as a car park with 100's of buses all parked up looking for passengers. We took our seats, leaving our bags on the ground outside, we sat there never seeing our bags being loaded and as a result spending the whole ... read more

Day 55 - Maputo (Mozambique) - 22/9/09 Woke up at 0700 because Michelle and French needed to leave by 0830 to get to the Mozambique High Commission to get their passport back with their visas. We jumped into the hire car and we were off, we headed down to Mbabane, I remained inside the car with bags whilst the others went and sorted out returning the hire car. This took a while as the hire company had charged French too much for something, I don’t know exactly what. Whilst they sorted this out I went across the road, I went a brought a Swaziland sticker for my work suitcase, I returned and nothing had been sorted. A few heated words were spoken but the company stood firm. We paid and went up to the bus stop, ... read more

Hello Everyone! It's been a while since our last entry. Sorry no pictures right now, the computer here won't let Aaron download any photos. We've been kicking back on the beach in Mozambique. Our friend Martina owns a Nissan repair shop in Vilankulos and we stayed with her for almost a month. She is so much fun, we had a great time. It was really nice to just be in one spot for a while, also. Since she let us stay for free, we tried to cook some really nice meals for her. Which was fun and challenging. Aaron loves to cook and it was challenging because she currently only has an electric skillet, a George Foreman grill, and a microwave until her house remodeling is complete. But we managed to turn out some decent meals. ... read more
