After an exhausting 2 day travel extravaganza, we have arrived in Kenya! For anyone thinking about taking such a long plane ride in the future, we highly recommend getting a day hotel on long layovers to get some real sleep in between. Though during our 12 hour layover in London, we quickly realized just how far apart the Heathrow and Gatwick Airports are.
We arrived this morning at about 7 a.m. and got to see what we think was the sun rising over Mount Kilamanjaro in the last hour of our plane ride. The temperature is really pleasant, not too hot, not too cold.
We met our safari operators--Henri in particular--who quickly relieved us of every dime we had (next time we'll verify that they take credit cards) and then enjoyed a harrowing 20 minute ride from a driver who jokingly (or at least we hope) said "in Kenya, we don't drive using lanes, we drive using instinct."
Sorry no photos at this time. While our hotel has internet access, there's no USB port. We'll look for one so hopefully we can provide a more visual perspective in the next day or two!
