we return
leaving nothing behind
harmattan June
carries us
back
but we hold on to May
our experiences
like the rushing rain
only Ghana knows
fast hurricanes
followed by blushing
sunshine
pushing clouds
away
rushing rain
that cleanses
washing over us
like the red dust pushing up
from overtravelled roads
nestled between
life
and
living
moving through a thousand stories
smiles
children waving
this is what we remember
ocean crashing
voices away
lives intertwined
shared grief
and questions
and the happiest time of our lives
together
these days make us
eyes lock across the aisles
our stories connect us
through hatred and sorrow
and counting tomorrows
we will never
lock
eyes
again
but our memories
are forever tangled
despite refusal
sisters
of red dirt and
remembrance
