In 2006, our family began what we thought was a 3 year adventure of living and traveling in China. But like Gilligan, our 3 year tour turned into something much longer and deeper than we expected. This was just the beginning of our cultural travels and blogs. 3 years turned into 6 years and included a time of residence in South Korea as well. The kids have all transitioned into and out of college leaving us as empty nesters, but not empty of ambitions to continue to explore the world. Tukuls

This village of little tukuls is typical of the region around Lalibela.

Inside St. George

Columns carved in a cruciform shape, curtains approximately 10m high separating holy of holies (LHS, striped), and well defined cruciform shape carved out of ceiling. They were very skilled. Hard to get a photo that properly captures the interior space .

Lunch with a view

Outside Lalibela is the Ethiopian/Scottish restaurant, Ben Abeba. Fantastic food, breezes, floating Lammergeiers in the lofty heights - we enjoyed it so much that we came twice.

Trip down memory lane
We went to Ethiopia in 2005. I enjoyed reading your blog because a lot of nice memories came back reading it. We absolutely loved Lalibela and Gondar. But the most spectacular place we visited was Omo Valley. If you wish to read about our trip we last year digitized the old photos we took then and we wrote a blog entry. /Ake
