Trip to the North - Day 2

The guides picked me up at my pension at 7am and took me to a fancy hotel at the top of the mountain to meet the two Scottish people who joined our half day trip to the Simiens. Melkom works in Addis for the UN, and his father came to travel with him to the North (and again a very cool one, who doesn't care about his age and enjoys LIFE).
After 1hour bumpy ride we started our hike. Half day is definitely not enough to Simiens, I knew it, but after hearing my neighbours' experiences coming back from a 4days trip...uff...hopefully next time 😊
But anyways, at least we saw tinnish of the stunning landscape, some baboons, and Columbus monkeys, people living in the middle of nowhere...amazing.
Back to Gondar my guide, Alex showed me around the city, the royal castle, a 70,000sqm compound from the 17th century, which is now under the UNESCO World Heritage defence, the Debre Berhan Selassie Church, OMG...can't even write about it...The way there I was hardly considering to turn back, as I was very much tired, and I had to pay 50Birr for the entrance, but again, OMG!!! This little church is such a blessed place that all my exhaust just disappeared. The roof is full of winged cherubs that follow you with their eyes, the walls are covered by all the Ethiopian saints, martyrs and lore and really, you feel being sacred there.
Back to the pension, quick shower and head to the city again, where they celebrated genna, the Ethiopian Christmas, which was actually a big party with famous singers and lots of local beer.
The only thing that stamped this beautiful whole day was Alex's offer to spend the night with him, and even after telling him, no, I have a boyfriend, I got the typical answer: no problem, I can keep secrets. And I am not the only one, the French lady yesterday told me the same, and happened many times to many of my friends as well, and this is why we had our exhibition on gender role, because -I'm sorry for generalising- but Ethiopian guys know no respect for girls and faithfulness at all.
I'm still pretty pissed off, hopefully the 10hours ride to Lalibela tomorrow will calm me down 😊

Az idegenvezetők reggel 7kor csíptek fel a szállásomon, majd továbbhajtottunk a hegy tetejére egy eléggé luxus szállodához, ahol két skót turista várt ránk, hogy nekivághassunk a félnapos Simien túránknak. Melkolm Addisban dolgozik az ENSZnél, az apukája pedig 3hétre vele tart, hogy az ország északi régióját bejárják (és megint, egy hihetetlen ember, aki az életkorát meghazudtolóan élvezi az ÉLETET).
Az egy órás rögös utat követően gyalogosan folytattuk az utunkat a Simien hegyekben. Fél nap nem elég, ezt tudtam már induláskor, de hallva a szomszédjaim beszámolóját egy 4napos túra után...hát...majd legközelebb 😊
Mindenesetre egy tinnish, halvány benyomást kaptam erről a lélegzetelállító helyről, láttunk páviánokat, Colombus majmokat, és embereket, akik a semmi közepén laknak.
Gondarbe vissza, Alex megmutatta a várost, a királyi palotát, ami a 17-ik században épült és 1979 óta az UNESCO védelme alatt áll, a Debre Berhan Salassie templomot, ami....leírhatatlan!!!Az úton eléggé fontolgattam a visszafordulást, plusz 50Birrt kértek el a belépőért, de amint beléptem ebbe a pici templomba minden fáradtságom és hezitálásom megszűnt. A mennyezet angyalokkal díszített, akik végig követik az embert a szemükkel, a falakon az Etióp szentek, mártírok és hősök, felemelő érzés, abszolút magával ragadó mágikus és szent lét.
Gyors tus a szálláson, majd vissza a városba, ahol az Etióp Karácsonyt, a gennát ünnepelték, ami igazából egy nagy party, koncerttel és sok-sok sörrel.
Az egyetlen dolog ami megpecsételte ezt a csodálatos napot Alex ajánlata volt, hogy töltsük együtt az estét, és hiába mondtam neki, hogy van barátom és nem, ő a tipikus választ nyomatta, hogy semmi gond, én tudok titkot tartani. És ez nem először fordult velem elő, és a tegnap megismert francia hölgy is ugyanezt mesélte, és több barát is panaszkodott már, és emiatt hoztuk össze a kiállítást a Nemi Szerepvállalásról, mert - bocsánat az általánosítás miatt-, de az etióp férfiak nem ismernek se tiszteletet a nők iránt, se hűségességet.
Még mindig tök ideges vagyok, remélem a holnapi 10 órás út Lalibelába lenyugtat majd 😊

"I'm sorry for generalising- but Ethiopian guys know no respect for girls and faithfulness at all. " this is the most dis respectful,ignorant and provocative generalization I ever read about. Certainly it is impossible to defend the guys action.However your rudeness makes him a saint. I am sure that opposite to your conclusion Ethiopians are more conservative than many ppl anywhere in the world. Show a little respect please!!!
