The Hanging Church in Coptic (Christian) Cairo.
Hello again! So I apologize in advance for the short, kind of all over the place post...things are a bit crazy right now, not aided by the fact that my computer refuses to connect to the internet! Sigh, I almost made it the whole semester without major computer problems! Of course it would act up while abroad, and of course Mac stores are impossible to find outside of the U.S. Well, I can find one, but with how little time is left, I might as well just wait...
Moving on...Kristin left yesterday 😞. I had a great time with her here, though I'm a little bummed that I didn't get to go to the pyramids with them on Sunday...I swear, class just gets in the way of life!!
Lets see, when I last posted Kristin had just gotten into town. She stayed for 10 days, during which time we did all things Egypty, ie Khan al Khalili, felucca ride, Coptic Cairo, Egytptian Museum, ect, and also some things American, ie Taylor's 21st birthday and THANKSGIVING! Yup, thats right, we had a thanksgiving dinner all the way out here in Egypt. We didn't have turkey, we used chicken instead, but it was

delicious (Holly really is a great cook!) and totally yummy. We also had such traditional favorites as mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and cranberry sauce. There was a nice little group of us--Holly, Kristin, Vicki (we treated our Brit to a classic American tradition!), Taylor and Andrew. It was fantastic, and Holly, Kristin and I cooking was extremely entertaining (don't worry, we didn't burn anything down or even destroy anything!). All in all, a great evening.
The next morning we left at 7 am for the black and white desert, which was also really cool. It was like a 4 hour van trip out to a small town near the desert, and we left from there to go camping for the evening. The deserts are exactly like they sound--the black desert has some sort of rock that makes it look black over the sand, and the white desert has something that makes it look, yup you guessed it, white! We got driven around the deserts all day (with only a minor amount of life-threatening occurrences!) and then camped out in the white desert at night. It was the full nine yards--sleeping outside, no tent, campfire, tons and tons of stars! and

desert wildlife. I was actually asleep for this part, but we got visited, not once but 3 times by a desert fox! According to Tosin it almost ate his face (take that with a grain of salt!) and the last time it came back Holly said to our guide Mohammed that "the fox returns" and that she was "scared from the fox." Oh ya, gotta love foreign languages! Needless to say, Mohammed got a kick out of Holly's stilted, formal and slightly grammatically incorrect Arabic, but as she spoke the most out of all of us, it was a good thing she was there! The fox apparently just wanted food (we had an empty cookie box) and left us alone after he discovered we didn't have food for him. We got back on Saturday, pretty late and totally exhausted. Then on Sunday I had to be at school all day (yuck!) so Kristin went to the pyramids with my roomie Sarah and two of her friends.
I feel like I have a ton! of work to get done before I leave for Turkey on Friday, but I'm uber excited! It will be really nice to travel to one more place

Welcome to the white desert!
before going home. I kind of wish that the semester were just over though, because it is really going to suck to come back from a nice week long vaca in Turkey and have to take finals! Oh well, school work is close to over for the semester!
I now have to go somehow scrap together a 13-15 page paper for Egyptology due tomorrow, and I'm still not sure what I'm writing about. Sigh. Somethings will never change!
Hope to hear form you all soon, and if you have any requests of stuff from Turkey or Egypt let me know soon!!
