On my terasse where we chill all the time Hey everyone!
Sorry I never actually came back on internet the other day. my plans all changed suddenly. My friend Sara, also from the University, came to visit this weekend. It was good times. It's nice to be talking to someone who totally understand you. We covered a lot of topics and surprisingly have been through about the same. So again; that was good.
We chilled and talk until 1 in the morning the next day; we went out with one of her friends and his cousin. The cousin totally flirted with me and now I'm stucked with him cause for sure he lives in the capital city. He's been calling me 3 times. Didnt answer the 1st 2 times and the last one I couldnt see who it was so I answered and obviously got stucked. Anyway... I,ll have to tell him not to loose his time.
I also had Belko's sister and her son come and check my house. She made good food. She was supposed to start today but she never came cause she had to figure out some school stuff for her son. He will transfer to the school closed to my house.
My moped
The lovely one. Life would be impossible here without it I also started working on monday. I didnt know what to expect and thought that I would get there and have nothing to do. But they asked the nurse guy of the clinic to come. We chatted for 2 hours about the health issues and problems of the population I'll be working with. It was so cool. I seriously didnt feel like I was stupid. I mean, I didnt study health and I'm not a nurse of anything, but i understood everything he was talking about. I mean probably all the classes i took about international health helped. So basically, all the diseases people come to the clinic for are mainly due to lack of hygiene and malnutrition. A lot of people are ignorant and dont know the causes of the diseases. I also feel like the nurses there might be mainly treating people with medicine when actually a change in habits of hygiene could probably help better in the long run. I,ll be working on that anyway.
So after our talk, he told me to start thinking about some topics for my sessions. I have a lot but some will be touchy and difficult. There is a program
Beni
It's Belko's sister's son DieuBeni or Mohammed in the country to try to sensibilise people to spread the births of kids and have less kids. But it's basically new. Men are obviously not in favour. So if woman come to the clinic and ask for pills, they basically hide to take them. But then, one day the man will realise that his wife is not having kids. So either he,ll beat her up and wonder what is going on or he will go see elsewhere. I dont really approve of them hiding to take them, but the nurse guy seemed totally fine with it.
Anyway; so basically, I've been planning and organizing my topics since monday. I am meeting with my other "homologue" on friday to discuss that
I am also leaving to Bobo-Dialasso on the 20th. I will be spending the weekend with Sara in hounde and then all Uniterra volunteers have a meeting and seminar thingy in bobo. Living at Sara will be different, she was telling me about her house... oh shit.. I'm not scared but i need to work on my shitting in a hole thing. She doesnt have a standard bathroom. There is also no toilet paper in her town.
So she uses her hand, but I'm sorry about that but I will be bringing my own from ouaga. She had to change a lot of her habits. I dont know if i would have been able to do that. I guess if I had no choice I would. ahahha
So now I have 10 days to practice. ahahhaha its too funny
Oh yeah!! I also freaked out yesterday. I came back home and there were 2 birds in my kitchen. It took me and Belko forever to have them out. We basically exhausted them to the point that they couldn fly anymore and Belko took them in his hands and put them outside. The door was wide opened and they wouldnt get out. I freaked out cause I remember my dads girlfriend saying that when you have a bird in your house it means that someone you know will die. So right after, I called my mom and dee and was making sure everything was alright. So far so good but I still think about it. Unless here in Africa it means something else.. ahhaa
I realise too that I lost weight, which is really good!!! youhou.
Djeneba
This is Belko's sister, the girl that will be working with me It,s only been 3 weeks too. Cant wait to see myself after 8 months ahahaha
Anyway. I wanted to attach some more pictures but it didnt work for some reason. I'll try next time See you all soon. Feel free to put comments I love hearing from you guys
