Hi, I recently graduated from high school and was wondering how simple it is to find work while travelling. I am from Canada, and would prob. wanna work in the UK, Europe, Asia, I realize that policies change on a country to country basis, is there a site that lists jobs aimed at travellers? Also is their alot of work or should I bank up a fortune before leaving on anything major? I was planning on going for as long as possible and have 10 k canadian atm, will have about 14 k before I leave hopefully, but I would love the idea of staying in a home base and working then venturing out, would defin. keep me going longer. I'm fluent in french and english if that helps any. Thanks for any help in advance! Reply to this

Going traveling, eh?

Working in other countries legally requires working visas...now as a Canadian it's not too hard to get these visas (if you happen to also have a European passport, then you don't need a visa for the E.U.). A good site to see which countries offer working holiday visas to Canadians is Swap.ca. (There's also an American version of the site for those south of the border). These visas allow you to stay in the country and work for a set amount of time per employer (some places you can work 3 months, others 6 months for the same employer).

I suppose you could also just try to find "cash-in-hand" jobs where ever you end up...which may end up being easier for short-term work but carries risks as well.

I would recommend having plenty in your account before you leave, because you never know what type of job / pay you will get, or how long it will take to find that job. Sounds like you're doing well savings-wise.

You may also want to look into teaching English overseas (ou bien francais), being an au-pair, or working on farms in various countries.

Thanks, I realize the need for visa's however I thought that being from Canada we (Canadians) were included under the commonwealth of Britian, and it colony countries and thus didnt need any form of a work visa etc... Anyways thx for the links will be sure to check out, kinda sick of the monotony and boredom after graduating, work/sleep/work/sleep/work/sleep... BORING. Just wanna add a bit of flare. Reply to this

Wouldn't that be nice? Luckily, although we still technically need those visas, it's fairly easy to get them as the commonwealth countries have working-holiday agreements with each other.

Good luck with the trip planning, and I totally understand the need to travel (as I'm sure most of the bloggers do!). It'll be interesting to see where you end up! Reply to this

Hi!I totally agree that being able to work while travelling is one of the best way to maximize the time travellers spend in a certaain place....I am from the PHilippines and I started travelling in 2004.That's where I got a teaching job in China....to teach English...I kind a love it because China is country of long history and there are so many places to visit....And I think for travellers from Canada,America,Australia,England and other English speaking countries,it's very easy to land a teaching job in China...As long as you look foreigner or white, chinese would love to employ you....As for visas, you can still enter China with your tourist visa and find a job while travelling to places in China.... Norway has a worker shortage right now, especially in the summertime at hotels. Contact your embassey in Norway (they most like have a website). There should be information there. Several years ago I had an American friend who got a summer job at one of the tourist hotels off the beaten track. Since you speak English, you should have a good shot at it. If you are too late this year, try again next year!! good luck! Reply to this

Hi guys!Anyone here interested in teaching English in the Northern part of China?I'm specifically referring to Inner Mongolia. It's a province where you could find mixed culture between Mongolia and China. Thus,it's a good chance to learn more of different cultures in China while traveling. If anyone is interested, send me a message at .Thanks!

there are heaps of jobs in australia. We have a skills shortage here. Depend what you are qualified in, and where you will be. I have international students who live with us "homestay" and many of them work after their study. They have worked as cleaners, fruit/veg pickers, hotels, tour guides etc. It could be difficult to time a job if you are only in a place for a little while, it can sometimes depend on luck. You could also try some websites that offer free accomodation and sometimes food in exchange for work. There are many farms that offer this in Australia Reply to this

this is a kinda world wide work in exchange for accomodation website- most of these are in farms.. so off the beaten track a little.... many people have written about their experience with it on Travelblog... try and do a search and read up about the pros and cons

I just googled work in exchange for accomodation or food and had a few different things come up... you could try that also Reply to this
