ATTENTION TRAVELERS- MAKE A LIST AND CHECK IT TWICE
11 years ago, March 21st 2013 No: 1 Msg: #167611
We love traveling, we love the planning, we love studying the globe, atlas and maps. During boring meetings at work we often day dream about future travels or hopes of future travels.

We challenge you to make your 5 year list of plans & or hopes. Each of us can check back at the end of each year to see if our goals, dreams and desires have been met. They say if you can dream it you can make it happen.

Here is our plan, hopes & dream:

2013
We've already been to Cuba.
England, Iceland, Switzerland

2014
Yap & Palau
Wales & Ireland
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuana, Belarus

2015
African Safari (uncertain of specific countries) Will go to Victoria Falls, Madgascar, Seychelles
Turkey
Corsica

2016
Israel, Jordan, Lebanon
Japan, Korea, Taiwan
Belize, Bahamas

2017
China, Mongolia
Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Chili, Bolivia, Columbia
U.S. Virgin Islands

OK...let's see what you is on your travel itinerary. Reply to this

Once, a friend asked me...if you really had a dream about travelling...where would it be...my answer was simple...the moon...

She went...come on...and my next answer was simple....you asked me for a dream....dreams are thing I don't do...because everything else is just planning...and I have to admit, climbing the Everest is not one of my plans!

So let's go planning...and hopefully that list will be done in the next five years...

- encounter with the polar bears in Churchill....that's more of a timing issue, but it will happen...

-snorkeling with the humpbacks in Tonga...2014...

-Bhutan...just need the right week and the right company...will be pretty easy to do once settle back in Bangkok...

Skiing near Ouarzazate....to have skied the 6 continents...ok, that's less of a priority...

Visiting Mali...well...calender is just not good right now....at the end of the day, was in Syria a month before things turned for the worst...

Diving and diving...Rangiroa, Fakarava, Cocos, Malpelo, Yap, Truk, Marshalls, Poor Knights, Lembeh, Flores, more of Indonesia, Malapascua, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Acores, Mergui, Fernando de Noronha, Roatan, Corn Island...I thing every thing else is done...

Life is short, better be good!

And to the question...what do you do once you've done eveything....answer is easy...you start again with your children...and in 15 years...or a little more...with hopefully my grand-children... Reply to this

Dave, you have heaps on the list! Very impressive and i'm jealous 😊

Our agenda at the moment is...

2013... attempting the flight to Europe with the toddlers (that is 30hrs of transit for us) - France and Thailand
Australia - Melbourne and Cairns, maybe Sydney

2014... bali and a cheapie this year...maybe Vietnam, perhaps Dubai due to Qantas direct flights now

2015...USA and Carribean... this will be most of our annual leave for the year and will also be a very long journey to get to. To get to Barbados from Perth is via London or USA which are big enough trips without the 10hr addition. But it will be my hubbys 40th present 😊

2016... dreaming of sri lanka still Reply to this

Cindy,

Sounds like a great plan. It will be interesting to check back here and see if it flows the way you are visualizing it now.
Too bad we won't be in Yap & Palau at the same time. We are thinking of going in 2014 if all works out.

Maybe our paths will cross in Mexico.
Looks like you will make it to Seychelles before us.

We never really plan very far in advance, but we always have a general idea of the next five or so places we want to go to. Then for a few months each year we have our ‘travel discussions’, which usually start on the plane coming home from the last trip! We decide on a destination depending on what time of year we can travel, and how much time we can take off. We keep the list as open as possible in order to accommodate any last minute spontaneous ideas from either of us (usually as a result of an article or travel/food program). So in no particular order, here are the current contenders for our next trip, and possibly for the one after that too:
-Russia (definitely a summer trip)
-Eastern Europe (one of the few trips where we’d consider travelling through multiples countries in one trip)
-Mexico
-Cuba (not in hurricane season!)
-Peru
-Japan
-Kenya/Tanzania (in migration season) Reply to this

Ren and Drew,
A solid plan.... looks like there are some great contenders in the mix.
We always attempt to have ticket to our next trip before we head out on our current trip. However, this does not apply to sabbaticals.

Spontaneous is good also.

We hope to meet you so hopefully our paths will cross in one of these locations.

You are all way ahead of us! We generally plan about a year ahead of our trips - further than that - well, we are not always sure where we will be, but amongst family visits in other countries we try and squeeze in a trip or two for ourselves. We normally sit and plan towards the end of a year or at the beginning of the year where we should go to next. We do like to be fairly spontaneous each year rather than plan to far ahead.

2013:
UK & Ireland (family wedding in Ireland)

For the future (and this is dreaming, not planning!):
Would love a RTW trip to see all the countries we haven't seen
Over landing trip heading north into Africa
Australia - to visit our eldest son
A couple more diving trips while we still can: Maldives, Seychelles, Great Barrier reef, Micronesia, Belize, etc etc...!!

So many places, too little time and money on our hands! Hope to meet up with some of you if our paths ever cross. Reply to this

Fun topic!

I'm not sure if I have a 5 year plan as such, but I have the next year planned and then have a goal for some long term travel in 5 years time. In the middle I know I won't be able to stay still, so have some rough ideas of where I'd like to go. So here goes:

2013 - Australian destinations - Tasmania, Darwin & Kakadu, Byron Bay, Port Douglas, and NSW wanderings

2013/14 - Sri Lanka and Maldives

2014 - Broome and the Kimberleys, more wanderings in NSW and around Australia.

Then it gets vague: the Philippines hopefully.

But sometime in the next 3-5 years, I plan to take a long-term trip and travel through Mexico, Central America, South America, with the aim of finally becoming fluent in Spanish.

Travel dreams....only reason to go to work sometimes! Reply to this

Traveling has always been one of the most fun-filled, exciting, entertaining and most of the time informative activity that you can totally enjoy by yourself or with your family and friends. With the help on the internet you can easily find travel agents online that can assist you in getting affordable discount air travels or any other budget travel promos and travel packages that their online travel agency offers.
It doesn't matter if you already have pre-arranged travel deals or just last minute travel arrangements because there are a lot of best travel websites to choose from that can accommodate your needs. As a traveler, you should also need to make preparations yourself and not purely rely on your travel agent. These are some basic travel tips for you to take into account to experience a hassle free travel and vacation Reply to this

Not sure where we'll be heading but I know we'll be going somewhere! Being school teachers, we try to make the most of every holiday. Have just returned from Australia's first notable town - Maldon. Dean and Eleanor are camping at Barooga now while I spend the next few days enjoying a little solitude on Melbourne's Riviera. Would love to go to Borneo in September... Reply to this

Because we can't yet plan far or long trips, this will be a tentative list that is very open to change, impulse, reality and opportunity. 😉

2013: Explore local areas we have yet to explore in the West -- Monterey Bay, Muir Woods in Autumn, as much hiking as possible amongst the beautiful redwoods, road trip to Grand Canyon, Moab and the like

2014: Explore more of Northwest US -- Oregon, Washington. Maybe escape from mainland US to Hawaii or Mexico.

2015-2017: Peru, Turkey, New Zealand, South Africa . . . and get back into diving -- maybe return to Indonesia or try Mexico or Florida or countless other dive spots.

Travel to South Korea and the UK will be inserted here and there to visit family.
