hey nice list and great plan for coming years .hope you make it..cheers!
Reply to this Hmm.. I actually talked about this with a friend late last year and we came up with a list of the countries we dreamed of going for the next five years. So we started with Cambodia earlier in April and we were supposed to go together to Indonesia earlier this month, but unfortunately, things happened and we had some sort of falling out. I couldn't bear to cancel the trip so I went ahead by myself and realized how much fun (and lonely) solo travel can be.
Anyway, here's how that plan stands now.
2013
Cambodia. Check.
Indonesia. Check. The original plan was actually Cambodia in April and Burma in December. But we saw an ad for discounted round trip tickets to Jakarta in February and we immediately booked flights. We rescheduled Burma for next year, but...
2014
Taiwan. A trip planned by my cousin. We already have tickets, but I'm still trying to decide whether to go because I want to save for the trip in April to...
Japan. Hmmmm...
Nepal. I applied as a volunteer English teacher and I got accepted for a one month stint. Originally I was to start in January, but I requested them to move my schedule to May to allow me to save money and so as not to have any conflict schedule-wise with my current job. They agreed. Unfortunately, my slot isn't guaranteed yet until I pay the registration fee, which I can't right now. There's no time pressure to pay but I canceled my application nonetheless in deference to other hopefuls who are waiting for a slot to open.
Vietnam and Laos. A Vietnamese friend is inviting me to visit her in HCMC and she wants us to do a cross-Vietnam trip to Hanoi then cross border to Laos. I'm not sure about this one. It depends on how much I can save by next year. We're planning to do this, if not in May or June, then in October or November.
2015
No definite plans for this year, but maybe I can go on with the volunteer thing. And I really want to go to India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
2016
Brazil for the Olympics! And then a couple more South American countries, especially Peru and Bolivia.
Reply to this Well, Ive started planning...I really wanted to change my travelling style back to 1980s - and have found its almost impossible. Ive booked my long service leave have a one way ticket to the first destination and was planning on just winging it and staying there as long as i liked before moving on when it suited me but no, onwards ticket is required..
Ive started somewhere though I dont exactly know where I will end up..I will work this onwards ticket thing through somehow 😉
Reply to this Luckily I have a boss who was a traveller once upon a time so is being very flexible - all up i have about 5 months on full pay due. Im not planning to take it all in one hit at this stage but hey, if I find where I should be..I might just stay there..a wise woman told me all airline tickets can be changed 😊
Wont be anywhere near the US (that again is a total other visa nightmare) the first part of the trip...I think..
