Traveling close to home

With no time or money I am trying to find time to "travel" and explore closer to home. I find writing about smaller trips a way to enjoy the time between larger more exciting trips.

I dream of doing nothing but traveling to all the amazing places that people write about. But in reality I have to have a stable job and a stable boyfriend who also has a job which does not allow for time to travel around the world. Maybe someday I will be able to take the time to travel around the world but right now I must learn to explore and travel closer to home. I have started looking at things I do in my own state that maybe other people would "travel" to come see." These are not as interesting as trips to India or Africa But half the fun for me is learning about the place I am going. I was a history and photojournalism major so I enjoy pulling out the books and researching an area. I have found out some really interesting things about my hometown and out of the way places that did not cost me a a ton of money or time off work to go see. I would love to see closer to home blogs. Does anyone have suggestions on cheap travel especially now with gas out the roof?

I love to travel but to be honest, I haven't really traveled somewhere far from my home. I mean, travel like you have to ride a plane and so on..I think it's also a great experience to get to know your place more before going somewhere far,

I agree! It is good a idea to get to know your own area. I enjoy being the only one listed who has a blog on places like Lancaster South Carolina. Good luck with traveling to areas closer to home. Reply to this

Trisha,

Welcome to Travel Blog and I am very happy you have posted this topic. Many of us Americans are envious of Europeans, Australians and others who get six and eight weeks of holiday time each year. My husband and I have been fortunate enough to travel around the world but it came after a few years of saving. We opened a separate savings account for our travel. Each pay period we put money in the account so that some day we could take one of these marvelous trips. I have faith your day will come

In the meantime, I think you are doing the right thing about blogging about things in your state and your area. In a short period of time you may find that you have a following. Please remember that there are many travel bloggers who are currently planning their trip to America and you may mention something that interest them. Plus many travel bloggers are in the US traveling the US and will find your info valuable.

Two of my favorite US bloggers are below. Take a look at their work. They go to some off the beaten track places and have interesting stories to tell.

FYI: I read and couple of your blogs and will be reading more of them in the future. I used to live in Cheraw, SC so I enjoyed that blog. Your history and photojournalism background will serve you well here.
