Hippies are alive and well in America. (not necessarily the unwashed kind) I think many of the counter -culture participants have grown up and gotten real jobs but they are still hippies at heart and soul where it counts.

Remember that many of the hippies are 60 + now.

A hippie is defined as a person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society, especially one who advocates extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitudes and lifestyles.

I think there are still plenty of hippies out there but they make look different. They may not be wearing torn jeans, tie-dyed shirts and wearing flowers in their hair.

Oh, we're still around and about, I am a card carrying hippie myself...

I have long hair and play Hacky Sack...

I have several Frisbees...

I hug trees and save puppies...

I actually used to work for the Grateful Dead, and many others in my youth.

But there are several "sub-sets" of Hippies in the world

For Instance: I do bathe, and oddly enough always hated the smell of Patchouli... I never thought it to be an acceptable practice to pour on more Patchouli in replace of a good shower. It smells like mold.

I also love technology, science, especially physics is beyond fascinating for me.

Are we dwindling? Maybe yes in some ways, at least the stereo typical hippie. But we will never disappear.

The one thing all hippies share,

Wishing the human race Peace & Harmony with Nature

My father in law is a hippie. He's got a pony tail, he lives to go to various music venues to see live bands and he spends the winter months in Goa where I can confirm there is a huge community of hippies. Reply to this

My sister and brother in law are hippies too. They are not the backpacking type of hippies though. 😊 Reply to this

Here in Crete in the little resort Matala, where there was a hippie community in the 60's and 70's, there was a reunion last weekend. Didn't go myself, but I was told it was great fun with old hippies as well as younger people. So they are still around! Reply to this
