People say that one stop into Byron Bay and you wont want to leave or at the very least, you will be back real soon... They might be right... I just love the place... My first day in Byron coincided with the Byron Bay 2011 Triathlon... How exciting and what an absolute treat to be front row and watch a triathlon take place absolutely live from start to finish... So whats Byron like?... Its kind of hard to describe it in just a few words... Its got a village-like atmosphere similiar to Nimbin, sophisticated bits and pieces here and there like Noosa, oodles of backpackers and transients like Airlie Beach... and a cohesive close knit community of new agers, surfers, hippies, fashionable alternatives, the well heeled and a few celebs tossed in... But mostly I think ... read more

Well... as promised... we are now inland... and I have to say... you cant possibly get much more culturally diverse than going from Noosa to Nimbin... Where Noosa is sophisticated and stylish... Nimbin is downright dirty and grungy... Yep... your in Australia's version of Amsterdam... pot heaven for those of you that indulge... Where as in Amsterdam... pot is legal to sell, purchase and partake of in public... in Nimbin it is not... Nimbin however... seems to have been conveniently left to its own devices by the powers to be, with an occassional blitz being the only interference from your local boys in blue... Nimbins other claim to fame is its renown all over as the country's most famous hippie/alternative destination. They all arrived in the 70's when Nimbin hosted the 1973 Aquarius festival... and... they ... read more

I absolutely, absolutely love Noosa... Its sophisticated, upmarket, and tasteful yet casual and relaxed at the same time... A place I could very happily settle down in... Well... actually... the truth be known... I dont really think I am the settling down type at all... but if I was... Noosa would rate pretty highly for me... In reality, anywhere on the Sunshine Coast is pretty special... And with an average sunny temperature of 25 degrees all year round, one can easily understand why all the southerners want to migrate up this way... and thus, why it is so pricey... With a population of around 54,000 across the shire... this is one very much in demand exclusive locale... Noosa has just been voted the 3rd best beach in the South Pacific... pretty impressive I say, considering the ... read more

Being the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, Airlie Beach is an absolute must... Airlie is only a small coastal hub, but its constantly abuzz pretty much all year round with the flow of national and international guests heading out to the islands... So... where to begin... As far as islands go, there are a whopping 74 tropical islands in the Whitsundays... most are completely deserted, however there are 8 of which have resorts... The deluxe of course is Hayman Island - Australia's most awarded 5* resort, but theres also Hamilton Island, Hook Island, Brampton Island, Daydream Island, Lindeman Island, Long Island and South Molle Island... If you are however, more into sleeping outdoors, then there are a few other islands that will allow camping... And what to do... well... take your pick... theres not a way ... read more

A huge hello to everyone and trust 2011 is unfolding just perfectly for you all... Hard to believe we're nearly into March already... Its been wonderful to have had a few months break from this blogging business, however must get back into it... places to go, people to meet, things to experience... isnt life just so exciting and interesting... no two days ever the same, not even two moments ever the same... So, onwards we go... If you're doing the road trip from Cairns heading south, then Mission Beach @ just under 2 hours drive is most definitely worth stopping in for, even if its just for a coffee. This very cutesy, hideaway seaside township is actually made up of four beach villages - South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, North Mission Beach and Bingil Bay which ... read more

Do you remember Christopher Skase... well... when he arrived in this little sleepy seaside village in the 80's to build his Sheraton Mirage... Port Douglas suddenly found itself in the spotlight... a star was born... literally... overnight... People came from far and wide... celebrities, hollywood starlets... why even an ex president or two... In fact... a certain Bill and Hillary were having a quiet and private holiday right here when they received that fateful call on 09/11... Of course Mr Skase has long left our shores... 1st becoming a fugitive and running off to Majorca in Spain, and then leaving this planet permanently... Port Douglas however lives on... its very much still a fabulous little exclusive spot to come for a few days... Not a great deal happening here, but when you need time out from ... read more

Ahh... Tropical North Queensland... its hard to beat... With a relaxed, tropical and laid-back lifestyle, you can be assured that you will leave in a considerably de..stressed state... The Cairns region encompasses two significant World Heritage Listed sites - The Daintree Tropical Rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef and is apparently the fourth-most popular destination for international tourists in Australia after Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane... Doesn't surprise me... The city's perfect proximity to the Reef, the Wet Tropics of Queensland, and the Atherton Tablelands... and with temperatures in the region averaging 20-30 C all year round, make it a very attractive destination... especially when its chilly down south... Dont skimp on your time here... While a couple of days will suffice for Cairns itself, use it as your base for getting out and exploring further afield.. ... read more

What a fantastic spot Darwin is... Liked it alot... An extremely cruisy and relaxed destination and yes, very hot... It has a tropical climate so just two seasons... wet and dry... and when its wet... its that really unpleasant sticky hot... People are oh, so friendly here... Hi, hello, goodmorning... beautiful day isnt it... absolutely everywhere I went... Needless to say but yes... I am very happy to be back in Oz... While Darwin in itself is worth a visit for a few days, its mostly seen as a jump off point into Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks... Still... its a major transport hub for the top end, especially for overseas travel. Darwin’s nearest neighbours are some of the great cities of Southeast Asia... It's closer to seven major Asian cities than it is to any ... read more

Location: Bitola, Ohrid, Skopje Length of Stay: 4 Days Cost per Day: $58 I was kind of expecting the Macedonians to be similiar in persona to the Greeks, however no... they are quite different... I suppose they would not be happy to be thought of as being the same... there is a little bit of conflict between these two nations... it surrounds the name Macedonia... They've been arguing for oh... only around 19 years... and one wonders if they will ever reach an amicable agreement... It appears to be very complicated and goes much deeper... but here is some surface info... I'm quoting... Macedonia seceded from Yugoslavia and became a sovereign state by a popular referendum held in September 1991 when the majority of voters chose independence. Greece immediately demanded from the international community not to ... read more

Location: Berat, Gjirokastra, Korce, Saranda, Tirane Length of Stay: 5 Days Cost per Day: $57 You will absolutely love the Albanians... what a gentle hearted, kind and sweet race of people they are... This explains why I found the Kosovars a nice lot... Approx 90% of Kosovars are of Albanian heritage... Not a great deal of English spoken, but its amazing how one can communicate and be understood with sign language when both parties are making a concerted effort... And of course one must not forget the very notable woman of which this country is very proud... while dear Mother Theresa was born in neighbouring Macedonia, she was in fact of Albanian descent... A curious thing here is the incredible number of Mercedes vehicles that one sees... an inordinate # in fact... Albania was car-free until ... read more
