DARWINDARWIN
DARWIN

oh dear... a little too much to drink...
What a fantastic spot Darwin is... Liked it alot...
An extremely cruisy and relaxed destination and yes, very hot...
It has a tropical climate so just two seasons... wet and dry... and when its wet... its that really unpleasant sticky hot...

People are oh, so friendly here...
Hi, hello, goodmorning... beautiful day isnt it... absolutely everywhere I went...
Needless to say but yes... I am very happy to be back in Oz...

While Darwin in itself is worth a visit for a few days, its mostly seen as a jump off point into Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks...
Still... its a major transport hub for the top end, especially for overseas travel. Darwin’s nearest neighbours are some of the great cities of Southeast Asia... It's closer to seven major Asian cities than it is to any other Australian capital...
In fact its much cheaper to fly to Bali or Singapore than it is for me to get to my next destination Cairns...

Had a wonderful opportunity to do some volunteer work at the local Crocodylus park...
They needed 15 people to help move 120 crocodiles from their raising pens to individual cages...
The most exciting experience ever... was amazing...

The local Aborigines are lovely...
hey darlin, can ya spare a few bucks for some smokes.
I'm so sorry but no I can't...
aww... thats awright darlin, you have yourself a nice day...
They were quite sweet really...
Mind you... many of you would be aware of the major alcohol problem that exists with the Indigenous...
Its pretty confronting and will leave you in a state of shock if you come across them inebriated and in an aggressive mood...
The language coming out of the woman in particular would make the most macho of men blush...

Really enjoyed my time in Darwin... its very, very different...
I would love to go back in the future with some friends and a 4WD and really get in and explore further into the Northern Territory...

Looking forward to Cairns...

Lovely photos Nic.....Transporting the pre-historic CROC'S would have been awesome!!!......Charles Darwin was a very very lucky fellow indeed.....According to my dictionary "Cairn" is a Gaelic/Scottish word meaning a conical "heap" or a "pile" of stones erected, fer example, on a mountain-top, as a landmark....Och aye the noooo!!!.....x

Welcome Home!
Hi Nic, It must be strange to be back in Oz again after so many wonderful countries. Are you staying for a while or will you be going back overseas again? I have really enjoyed travelling around the world with you from my computer. Enjoy Cairns, and try to see a bit of the beautiful Daintree. Take care! Sonja
