Location: Luxembourg City, Vianden, Diekirch, Clervaux, Ettelbruck Length of Stay: 4 Days Cost per Day: $70 I found Luxembourg to share many similiarities with Liechtenstein... Its Europes 3rd smallest country with a current population of just over 1/2 million... It is also governed by a monarch... A Grand Duke to be exact... For those interested... a Grand Duke ranks below a King but higher than a Prince or a normal Duke... The correct title for this country is the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg... and it's the only Grand Duchy remaining in the world... and like Liechtenstein, its very clean, ordered and nowhere in the country is much further than an hour away from the capital... It was good to just base myself in Luxembourg city for the 4 days and venture out on day trips... Its ... read more

Location: Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Trier Length of Stay: 5 Days Cost per Day: $116 Berlin... well... Its certainly not going to win any beauty pageants, but you know what... I still really liked it... Its big, its dirty, its grungy, its very alternative, got loads of history and its got attitude with a capital A... I would definitely return... Oh and the music... I heard some really great stuff in the short time I was there... Did you know that techno/electronic dance originated from Germany... Berlin & Frankfurt are the techno capitals... so say the tourist brochures... online says the States... fantastic in any case... I have always loved the stuff... There are some really good tours you can do in and around Berlin... Here is just one that I thought would be really interesting to ... read more

Location: Wroclaw, Krakow, Oswiecim aka Auschwitz, Warsaw, Poznan Length of Stay: 5 Days Cost per Day: $55 This was a pleasant surprise... and turned out to be a fantastic country to visit... Loved the Polish... they are super, super friendly... its makes such a difference to ones whole experience... Summer has finally officially arrived as of June 1... coming in on the train from Prague, it was a Saturday and quite funny to travel through the countryside, past peoples back gardens, farms etc and see them out in their jocks, boxers and mismatching bra and panties sunbathing and doing the gardening... nice to see the locals enjoying themselves... Krakow is the darling superstar of Poland... it was once the Royal capital and came through WWII relatively undamaged... It was a small former Eastern Bloc city, which ... read more

Location: Olomouc, Brno, Telc, Ceske Budejovice, Ceske Krumlov, Plzen, Prague Length of Stay: 5 Days Cost per Day: $48 Now this is one you definitely do not want to miss out on... A truly stunning country everywhere I went... and one to add to your travel to-do list... Accommodation was fantastic... they have the most massive pillows here... like 3 times the normal size... and I tried something a little different here... sampled staying in a private home on 2 occasions... Every train station has a tourist office and there they have a big white folder where you can look through the towns accommodation listings ranging from hotels through to pensions, hostels and privates... if you choose a private, they will ring the little old lady down the road and let her know you are coming ... read more

Location: Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Poprad, Zdiar, Trencin Length of Stay: 5 Days Cost per Day: $51 To be honest, I didnt have any intention of visiting Slovakia or any other Eastern European countries on this trip, however everyone has been telling me how wonderful they are, so I thought I would at least look at one... Like me, you may not know much of this country... My knowledge was zero... in fact I dont know that I have ever even met a Slovakian... so heres a little about its history... 100 000BC - the first settlers inhabit the area of present day Slovakia 1918 - Czechoslovakia is formed and made up of Czech Republic and Slovakia 1948 - The Soviet Union and Communism take over 1989 - The Velvet Revolution takes place - and the fall ... read more

Location: Feldkirch, Innsbruck, Hall, Salzburg, Vienna Length of Stay: 4 Days Cost per Day: $94 Ok... so now we have a place with a bit more personality... Austria is gorgeous... Its got style, energy and a whole lot more street excitement going on... there is loads of colour, music, entertainment, interesting foods, and so many more tourists here than in Switzerland... And experienced my first bit of steady sunshine and blue skies in several weeks... hallelujah... I had been struggling there for a bit the last few weeks due to it still being quite cold, overcast and drizzly... I am convinced that it really is true... grey skies do give you the blues... Innsbruck is a very pretty little town... Salzburg is of course gorgeous... and Vienna... well simply divine... a beautiful city to visit and ... read more

Location: Vaduz, Schaan, Malbun, Triesenberg, Triesen, Balzers, Eschen, Mauren Length of Stay: 3 Days Cost per Day: $70 Wow... Liechtenstein is small... really small... like only 26km in length by 6km in width... Literally, you only need to spend a few days here and you can traverse the whole country... Liechtenstein has one of the oldest monarchies in Europe... while small, the country has a certain air of regalness about it... The Royal family live in a castle overlooking the main town Vaduz... The odd thing though is that everthing... buildings, homes, streets etc... all look reasonably new... certainly nothing that looks like it has been there for hundreds of years... where are all the historical old buildings and homes, the cobbled streets... how curious... With a whopping population of just 35,000... people enjoy a fairly ... read more

Location: Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux, Bern, Interlaken, Bonigen, Grimmelwald, Lucerne, Basil, Zurich Length of Stay: 7 Days Cost per Day: $85 Well... there is no doubt about it... Switzerland is an extraordinarily pretty place as far as mother nature goes... Guess loads of other people think its pretty special too... The UN, International Red Cross and World Health Organisation have all set up their headquarters here... It is however very, very expensive... I think most people know that... I cant quite figure out why though as its not a particularly sophisticated society which is what I was expecting... Sure its got its fantastic landscapes and its pretty buildings but really thats about it... Life on the streets is pretty dull... in fact overall I found that I was most uninspired here and happy to leave after ... read more

Location: Kos, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Mykonos, Athens, Kalambaka, Meteora, Corfu Length of Stay:15 Days Cost per Day: $60 The Greeks in Greece are definitely an interesting lot... very different from the ones I have met back home in Australia... and we have alot back home... In fact, apparently the Greeks in Melbourne are the largest Greek community in the world outside of Athens... So what are they like here... Well... the best word to use is the word big... They are very big in stature...with big loud, booming voices... big, big personalites... and they dont seem to smile all that much... Sometimes when you see and hear the locals interact with each other, you think that they are having an argument... because they yell so loudly... but no... just their way of communicating... Definitely not alot ... read more
