I hate tour groups. I am too cool for them. This is my justification for the smug tone in this blog. It´s my party and I will cry if I want to. There is a lot of debate about how to best experience the Galapagos. Some fly to the islands then try to catch a last minute deal to save some money, others just book it in Quito. Flying to the islands and booking one is of course is possible, but in my opinion, you should research the boat you want and just book it. Remember that the itinerary is more important than the boat. The Galapagos is expensive. Either pay the money to get what you want or don´t go. Penny pinch on the rest of your trip. How many times are you going to ... read more

There is really only so much that one person can take in. Visiting the Galapagos has really challenged my personal capacity to absorb and experience. I sit here writing this on on the sun deck of our unfortunately named boat, the SeaMan. and although I'm slightly distracted by the crazy german lady getting 3rd degree sunbuns between her almost nude panty hose and rolled up capris, I can't help but ask myself if I could have seen more or experienced more here during our 7 day cruise (Thank god we opted for the 7 day stay, and not the 3 or 4 day cuise). But I have to believe the true answer is no. We saw thousands of crawling and swimming iguanas and lizards, hundreds of sea lions, giant turtles, blue and red footed boobies, mating ... read more

Everyone has heard of the Galapagos Islands, and know its full of wild animals that are as tame as your pet dog, but we were still a bit skeptical if its really as nice as everyone makes it out to be. We are not avid bird watchers or anything like that, and hoped we wouldn't be disappointed by our trip. We treated ourselves to an eight day boat trip around the islands on a sailing-motor boat called Encantada. An essential part of any good trip is having a good group people to enjoy ... read more

Well, we´ve spent the last few days touring the Galapagos Islands. We´re in Santa Cruz Island making a quick foray into the port before going back on board. A quick note to say it´s been a fantastic experience. Lives up to all expectations and beyond. Wildlife in abundance, literally at your feet. Swam with Sea Lions today, have seen sharks and turtles while snorkelling. More updates to follow when we´ve been through our zillions of photos! (sorry to hear we lost Rugby, hope we´re not out altogether)... read more

We flew from Quito to the island of Baltra on the Galapagos islands where a bus was waiting for us a took us a short way to a ferry accross to the main island of Santa Cruz. The islands are very windy and look quite bleak. We took another bus for an hour accross the centre of the island to the main port of Santa Cruz on the other side where we met our boat, The Pelikano. We ate a fantastic lunch on the boat and met the crew and the other guiests who have been here for three days already. In the afternoon we went to visit the Darwin research centre and the giant tortoises therein. We met lonely george who is the last remaining member of his species. He is approx 95yrs old and ... read more

Well hello everyone who is reading! We´re back on the green stuff, in Cuenca (Ecuador) after our trip to the Galapagos. The first thing to say is that we got back from the Galapagos two days earlier than planned. This is probably something of a surprise to some of you (especially Uncle Geoff!), but for a couple of reasons we decided to jump ship before the end of the trip. The main reason is that, as Matt and Lou found, the seas in the Galapagos area can be quite rough, and some of the travelling between islands was overnight or during meal times (thanks, Captain). Although Bridget has had extensive experience of life on the ocean waves as a child (on board ´Kingfisher´ on the River Soar at a leisurely four mph) it didn´t take long ... read more

After a stressful time booking this trip (don´t ever use Sangay tours in Quito - instead go to www.Galapagosoptions.com) I was excited to be started my travels. Having been out for a crazy night on Friday to numerous bars and Bunglow 6 in Quito I opted for the movies with Dan and Vince thinking it would be a tame one and knowing I would have to be at the airport for 6am. How wrong could I be as the guys wanted to party and as you know me I can never really say no. Anyway finally made it to bed at 2.30am and then rose at 5am. My Ecuadorian host wouldn´t take no when I mentioned breakfast wasnt necessary. Instead she was up and bid me farewell. Havent mentioned this, but I had a week with ... read more

Hi all, This is just to inform you that there's an internet place even in the galapagos islands, 970 KM west of ecuador. We flew in this morning, got on our boat and... I felt really sick! But don't worry, after about an hour we left the ship again and went to see some giant turtoise on the shore, and when we got back on board I felt just fine (tfu tfu tfu). I hope I will continue to feel that way, but even if not, I have some pills against puking, I hope they would help. Apart from that, on Sunday we spent so much time in the internet uplodading the pictures that we only had time to go to one museum (the central bank museum) for one hour. we saw archeological findings from before ... read more

Ok, i know its been a while and for that i apologise for not letting people know where i have or will be, especially mum who thought i was stuck in the shocking earthquake in Peru. We actually were in the town of Ica, Nazca and many of the others that were hit but luckily due to other instances which i will go onto later we sped up the trip a bit and moved further North clear of any danger. Equador Right now i am chilling in Quito, the Capital of Ecuador, after a few short stops in Northern Peru to hit the beach then into Guayaquil to catch a flight to the Galapagos Islands. However, im jumping the gun a bit here. Jolly Flight to Cape Town!! In between leaving Nazca and hitting Lima i ... read more
